'Hindu-Muslim unity made Quit India Movement successful'

New Delhi, Aug 9 (IANS): The Quit India Movement never saw any riot as Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru had sought unity among the Hindus and Muslims, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Wednesday.

"Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru (first Prime Minister) had said India can get freedom only if Hindus and Muslims fight together for the Independence," Azad said in the Rajya Sabha on the occasion of Quit India Movement's 75th anniversary.

During his speech in the Rajya Sabha, Azad paid tributes to several leaders of the freedom struggle such as Mangal Pandey, Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, Bhagat Singh and Ram Prasad Bismil among others for their invaluable contribution.

    Quit India movement led to partition, and partition led to massacre of Hindus living in Pakistan by the millions.
    What have successive governments done over the past 75 years? Any other country would have erected a memorial for the fallen people - they do that for fallen soldiers.

    Unity died down soon and there was a partition.
    Great leader/s of those days aspired to steer the nation as head. Two nation theory had birth. Rest is history. Cant be selective.

    I know very well.
    May be the situation is changed a bit these days but worse is alraeady done. People misused in the name of religion and culture protecters. All such nuicence started when and how you know very well. During my childhood or schooling and college days never had such divisive culture. I am not generalizing but just pin pointed . Excuse me If i hurt you.

    Not only ruling, they want to make sure that minorities are under their will power (or fist power) upto choice of eating habbits, way of dress code, practicing Yoga, restriction on intercast marriages and conversion, making false charges on other religions, lycnhing, chasing wherever the love birds are relaxed. etc..

    You are paranoid. When you are paranoid, you feel like whatever is happening around you is happening to jeopardize you.
    Just consider the ratio of people who support lynching in the name of beef and who are against it. I don't think even 0.001 percent of Indians will favour lynching.
    Dress code??? You should roam around in Bangalore and even in Mangalore pubs during your next visit. You will be surprised how boldly the kids dress up.
    I don't find anything wrong in practicing Yoga. I don't do it, its my wish.
    BJP does not oppose intercast or inter religious marriages. I have been living happily for decades with a wife from a different religion, with neither of us being converted.
    Lynching, chasing lovebirds, communal murders..... number of such incidences are negligible when compared the huge population of India. All is well in India, Both you and Henry can find some other reason to oppose BJP ;)

    The reason Flavian says what he says is because he doesn't live in India, same like me. I also feel the similar way because we only read news outside India. And new always tend to carry whats happening bad in surroundings. When we read the news outside India we feel that such things are happening everywhere.

    It's not only in India, When you hear the news about the US you may feel that there are racist on the loose everywhere.

    ..look at these people..read Maulana Abul kalam Azad statements, articles..he opposed partition till end..He was angry with Nehru Congress..BR Ambedkar disgusted how Nehru group working..they even fielded candidate against Ambedkar..if Congress was Dalit champions, then why Ambedkar along with his followers converted to Budhism..How many knows about Jogendra nath mandal..He is freedom fighter Dalit leader but went with Jinnah..why?..let Congress show a school, university or atleast a Road named after Ram prasad bismilla..
