Mangalore, May 12: Union government is showing step-motherly attitude towards Dakshina Kannada (DK) district. The development of New Mangalore Port, Airport, Railway Station and National Highways has been totally neglected by the centre. But the Congress trio Janardhan Poojary, Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes have totally disregarded the issues related to coastal Karnataka, said prominent BJP leader and former union minister Anant Kumar.
Addressing the media persons here, on Monday May 12, he said that the state is facing dearth of veteran Congressmen from the DK who could take up issues of significance of the district in the legislative assembly. Though Oscar, Poojary and Moily are reckoned as national leaders, their contribution to the district has been nothing but abyssymal.
Veerappa Moily assured that Kannada will be given classical language status. Four years down the line, the promise is yet to be fulfilled. On the other hand when union home minister Shivaraj Patil submitted an affidavit to Supreme Court (SC) stating that Belgaum is located in Maharashtra, the much famed trio remained silent.
The entire nation is facing food crisis owing to mismanagement by the union government. The hike in prices of the essential commodities has brought distress to common people. Loan waiver packages have not been implemented efficiently in the state which has accounted for more number of suicides by the farmers reeling under heavy burden of loans from money lenders and unscrupulous traders. On the other hand, the misrule has contributed for increase in terrorism, Naxalism and violence across the country. The colleges in Karnataka have become breeding centers of terrorism, he accused.
Free campaigning:
Election is the festival of democracy while Indian constitution which necessitates the open campaigning. Therefore, mourning kind of silence would not be justified during the course of poll campaigning. This effectively calls for Election Commission (EC) to relax strict rules laid by it, he urged.
Former MLA Yogish Bhat, BJP district president Monappa Bhandary and others were present on the occasion.
