Mangalore, May 15: The Pandeshwar police have seized Rs 3.09 lac in cash at Falnir on Wednesday, May 14. from a car belonging to Congress party workers.
Acting upon a tip-off, the police intercepted the car at Falnir and seized the cash along with the car. They also took away banners and printed material belonging to the Congress party.
The Congress lost no time in denying that there was any malpractice in relation to the money. They said that the money which was found in the car was meant for constructing booths in polling stations and it came under the purview of the rules put forward by the Election Commission. It also said that the party had taken prior permission from the Election Commission. Therefore, the party would counter the action taken by the Pandeshwar police, the Congress told.
The Superintendent of Police Sateeshkumar told Daijiworld that a case has been registered at the Pandeshwar police station in this connection If the concerned persons prove the genuineness of the source of the funds and the actual purpose of its use, the case will be dropped, he said.
