Mangalore, May 15: The election vigilance committee of the CPM came down heavily on the local election officers appointed by the Election Commission alleging that they are showing favouritism to Congress and BJP.
Addressing media persons here on Wednesday May 14, committee chairman Munir Katipalla said that the election officers have been hesitant in taking action against BJP and Congress whenever the committe has reported violation of poll code by them.
He pointed out that Congress had violated the election code of conduct by installing cut-outs during Sonia Gandhi's visit to the city recently. The party had also put up flags during the entire day of her visit even though acording to election norms parties are allowed to display flags only for two hours ahead of the scheduled programme, he added.
The committee also alleged that the police filed a case against Congress for bringing people to the rally only after the committee members threatened to stage a protest. He also levelled allegations of malpractices against BJP.
Mangalore South CPM candidate Yashwant Maroli was present.
