Mangalore : FMMC Organizes Health Awareness Camp for Elderly

Mangalore, May 20: The department of community medicine, Father Muller Medical College here organized a health awareness camp for the elderly on Sunday, May 18. 

Dr S B Rotti, professor and head, department of community medicine, welcomed the gathering.  The camp was inaugurated by Sr Olinda Pereira, chairperson of Vishwas Trust. She expressed a sense of deep satisfaction on being able to participate and be part of such a programme.

Fr Denis D’Sa, administrator, Father Muller Medical College, presided over the function. He narrated a story highlighting invaluable contributions being made by elderly persons to the society. Four elderly persons were felicitated on the occasion.

Dr Nagesh Attavar, medical officer of the urban health centre was also present at the camp.

Dr Anupama, tutor, department of community medicine, proposed the vote of thanks.

The activities at the programme included two short lectures by Sr Olinda Pereira and Dr S B Rotti, dealing with the health problems normally afflicting the aged and the curative measures thereof.

Dr Swathi Nayak, intern, Dr Vaibhavi P S, intern and  Isabella D’Souza, health educator, urban health centre, Mullerkad organized games and a quiz session for the participants. With their melodious rendering of folk songs, the elederly participants enthralled the crowd.

About 120 elderly persons participated in the programme. The event concluded with a sumptuous lunch for all the elderly persons present.
