Kerala cops should address a citizen as 'sir': human rights panel

Kozhikode, Aug 24 (Manoramaonline): The Kerala Human Rights Commission wants a role reversal of sorts in the relation between the police and the public. The cops better address the citizens as 'sir' or 'madam' as in the developed countries, commission acting chairman P. Mohandas said.

Mohandas said that the commission has received many complaints of disrespectful dealings by the police and the tendency to be rude was evident even with the people-friendly Janamaithri police.

He said that he would ask the director general of police to sensitize fresh recruits on how to deal with the public in a civilized way, while considering a petition filed by Arm of Joy managing trustee G. Anoop.
