Three youths washed away in Ganga

Allahabad, Aug 25 (IANS): Three youths in Uttar Pradesh were washed away in the Ganga river here on Friday when they went for a holy dip on Ganesh Chaturthi, police said.

Sumit Kumar and Vikas Singh, both 25, along with Sashank Kumar Yadav, 21, reached the Sangam around 7.30 a.m.

Somehow Yadav slipped into the river. When Kumar and Singh tried to save him, all were washed away by the strong current, witnesses said.

Priests on the banks alerted the police.

"There is no trace of the them till. Divers are at looking for them. Chances of finding them are slim as the river is in spate," said Inspector Kamlesh Kumar Singh.
