Margao, May 22: Roadside hoardings of Margao area which were obstructing vehicle drivers, by diverting their eyesight, were removed by Margao Municipal Council (MMC) on Wednesday May 21.  MMC has initiated a drive to vacate these roadside hoardings.

Yeshwant Tawade, chief officer of MMC, claimed that they razed down around 21 roadside hoardings. But sources in MMC said that it was only eight.

MMC had decided to raze down the same hoardings which were obstructing public, month ago, but owing to political pressure, it had failed to implement the drive.

High Court had ordered to remove such hoardings. But hoarding companies and agents along with MMC had failed to remove the same.

To avoid any untoward incident, MMC with police protection and joint Mamlatdar Shankar Gaonkar, implemented the drive. According to MMC official the drive will continue this week.
