Bengaluru: Lingayat community should have been included in the Union Cabinet - Belagavi MP

Bengaluru, Sep 4 (PTI): Apparently disappointed over not finding a ministerial slot in the latest reshuffle, Belagavi BJP MP Suresh Angadi today faulted the state leadership for the dominant Lingayat community from north Karnataka not being included in the Union Cabinet.

At present, there is no Lingayat representation in Union cabinet from Karnataka. It has two Brahmins, a Vokkaliga and a Scheduled Caste member. BJP banks heavily on the Lingayat vote base.

"100 per cent Lingayats from North Karnataka, especially from Belagavi have not been represented in the Union Cabinet..

I will definitely air this grievance before Javadekarji, if he invites me," Angadi told PTI here. Angadi's name as a probable candidate for ministerial berth was doing the rounds in the state BJP circles while Ananth Kumar Dattatreya Hegde, who has been appointed Minister of State for Skill Development emerged as a surprise pick.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, in-charge of BJP affairs in Karnataka, is holding deliberations with state party leaders here today on party matters.

Angadi said there are many MPs from North Karnataka and whoever is capable should be made the cabinet minister.

"There are many MPs from our region (North Karnataka), not only me... Whoever is capable let them be made," he said.

To a query, Angadi said the state BJP leadership should have made a favourable plea before the central leadership for giving representation to North Karnataka.

"Our state leadership or the team should have pleaded properly before the central leadership... Entire team should be united. My friend (Hegde) has become a cabinet minister. I am very happy for him," he said.

Angadi said he is a sincere worker of the party from the beginning, and rose to be a Parliamentarian from an ordinary post of Belagavi city vice president.

"My people have elected me thrice, irrespective of caste, creed or religion. The best testimony is that I have won elections from an area which boasts of having more than 50 per cent Marathi votes," he added.

Mr. Angadi, the Prime Minster always mocks Rahul Gandhi because pappu feels that he is entitled to be the next prime minster purely by an accident of birth; and nothing else. No qualification and no merit.

Now if you say a lingayata should have been in the Union Cabinet, then what is the difference between pappu and that lingayata minister? Surely, you did not chose be a lingayata, rather you were born into that community. So how does that birth 'qualifies' you to be a minster?

Hegde’s induction into the ministry has defied the caste and political calculations of his party rank and file in the poll-bound state. The strong Lingayat community has remained unrepresented in the Modi ministry after GM Siddeshwara was eased out of the ministry last year.
The names of Suresh Angadi, Prabhakar Kore, and Shivakumar Udasi were doing the rounds as the probable candidates for induction under the Lingayat quota.
The top leadership of the party in Karnataka, including its chief BS Yeddyurappa, expected one berth for the Lingayat community, which forms the core of its vote-bank.
Hegde had landed in a soup in 2016 when he said:
Islam as an ideology should be eradicated. As long as there is Islam in this world, there’ll be terrorism. Muslims, wherever they are, should follow the laws of the land.
    #Church is just a commercially operated #ReligiousConversion platform & doesn't deserve any respects #SoulHarvestors-9:02 PM - 14 Jun 2016
If not for #Buddhism, we would have had an #AkhandBharath & #Islam would have met a more stiff resistance in the desert itself!-9:09 PM - 10 Apr 2017
It is shocking that a person with so much apparent hate for various religions has been chosen to be a minister in a multicultural country like ours
It is shocking that a man who retweets posts that advocate ‘crushing’ dissenting students and look down upon men and women spending time with each other, is chosen as a minister.
Out of 280 BJP MPs, is this the talent that PM Modi has ‘thoughtfully’ chosen to be the Minister of Skill Development?
In the coastal areas of Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada, the BJP had won only three out of 19 Assembly segments in the 2013 polls.
His induction is part of the saffron strategy to polarise voters on communal grounds.

First decide who will be CM if BJP wins by chance in next election. People of Karnataka are not in a position to see the high drama of changing of chief minister 's seat. Yeddy looks over confident!

Jaimini enough of bhakti. No caste politics? What a joke! Out of 77 ministers, the Modi cabinet has 41 Brahmin ministers and you are telling no caste politics. Among all the BJP chief ministers in India, majority of them are Brahmins or Upper castes and you talk about MERIT? What is Anant Kumara Hegade's merit? As recently as 6 months ago, he was caught live assaulting a doctor. He has a history of provocative comments and speeches? What else is his qualification? He's hasn't even completed PUC. Our present Speaker is Brahmin, so is finance minister, defense minister, foreign minister, HRD minister, Cultural and Tourism minister, commerce minister, fertilizers minister, transport minister etc. Then our home minister is Rajput, so is agricultural minister, civil aviation minister is kshatriya, then textiles minister is a Khatri (even superior caste than Rajputs) etc. Who said only merit counts my friend?

    Kurubas 7.1%
    Brahmins 2.1%

    Let me remind you BJPians
RSS under Brahmins rule and 2% brahmins acquired whole 98% of Hindus

This is appeasement politics and nothing else. Modi's demonetisation is a big blunder. He should explain to People of India. Only poor people suffered due to demonetisation. Why no action against Robert Vadra yet? Modi is silent on Vadra just because Vadra is close to Adani. IT raids on D.K. Shivkumar is a welcome move. We want to see IT raid on all corrupt politicians and their cronies and government should not be selective. Another blunder by Modi at the time of cabinet expansion is removing Suresh Prabhu as railway minister. If performance is the criteria, what are the achievements of Arun Jaitley as finance minister? He is screwing up Indian economy. Are there no suitable candidates for the finance minister??? Ananth Kumar Hegde is a goonda and unfit to become a minister.
