Udupi, Jun 3: Suzlon Company, which has set up a base near Padubidri in the taluk, was in the news a couple of days back, after a portion of the  compound wall it had erected, crashed to the ground, owing to incessant rains. Another portion of the compound wall caved in on Sunday June 1 night, flooding the nearby agricultural fields with muddy water.

About an acre of the agricultural field owned by Raghu Devadiga and Ramu Devadiga got submerged in filthy water because of the current incident. It is said, that the company failed to put in place proper drainage system for the rainwater to flow out freely, resulting in collapsing of its compound wall. The farmers say that because of the flooding, their fields have been rendered out of use for a period of two years.

Official of the company Ashok Shetty promised to arrange for payment of compensation by the company to the affected persons. The locals who came together against the company, were vociferous in their protest against a big sized drain the company has erected, by the side of a local road. Shetty agreed to the suggestions made by the people like opening of the  drainage channels that existed previously for allowing free flow of rain water and also to build compound walls out of concrete in places where the rain water flows.
