Panaji, Jun 4: Goa police filed chargesheet against the two accused who were arrested for raping and murdering British teenager Scarlett Eden Keeling.

Anjuna police, which is investigating the case, chargesheeted the accused Samson D'souza and Placido Carvalho before the Goa children's court.

Scarlett's bruised corpse was found at Anjuna shore on February 18 and police had arrested the two locals after thorough investigation in the case.

The 287-page chargesheet submitted to the court has testimonies of 87 vital witnesses in the case including Scarlett's mother Fiona Mackeown, lawyer Vikram Varma, prime British witness Micheal Mannion, dismissed police sub inspector Nerlon Albuquerque, Goa Medical College and Hospital's forensic department experts and others.

Both the accused are chargesheeted under section 302, 376, 328, 201, 109 of Indian Penal Code and Section Eight of Goa Children's Act.

Scarlett's death case had invited criticism of the state police for mishandling the case and now the CBI has been brought in to the picture.

'The CBI may take over the case any time. All the formalities have been completed,' Goa chief secretary J P Singh said.

Police officials confirmed that the chargesheet in the children's court is a mere technical formality as CBI is yet to take over the case.

Samson D'souza, main accused in the case, is already in the custody for almost three months now since his arrest on March 12 while Placido Carvalho was bailed out by the court for having insufficient evidence against him.

The state police have stopped investigating the case for last one and a half months as the state government has given its nod to transfer the case to CBI. Goa government has already notified the transfer of the case.
