Udupi, Jun 6: Sea erosion, nightmare to fishermen who live on the shores of the sea has affected the Udupi district too. The houses of Ashok Putran and Somnath Kotian located close to the sea at Muloor, near here lies on the verge of collapse, owing to heavy sea erosion. The tidal waves had washed away about 300 meters of sea shore in the sea erosion prone area.

Boulders that are dumped along the seashore here were washed away by the powerful sea tides. Ashok Putran has already taken refuge at a nearby Bhajana Mandir, located on high grounds owing to the threat of sea erosion to his house.

At the onset of monsoon, every year the same areas come under massive sea erosion.  It was during the last monsoon, ministers Nagaraj Shetty and Dr V S Acharya had visited this location and assured of providing compensation to the affected families. The ministers also assured of finding permanent solution for sea erosion. But nothing has been done so far, here to avoid sea erosion. Locals blame the past Deputy Commissioner Ponnuraj who denied funds to carry out rescue operations in the same locality.

Udupi Tahsildar V B Fernandes and Fisheries and Port Department officer Naranappa visited the spot and assured of forwarding their report to the higher officials.

My response to Joel and oliver. Joel pls. note that these people who live on the sea shore are hard working and innocent people. They are not cheaters and their bread and butter comes from hard working and you know they do fishing in these areas which forces them to live on the sea shores. And Mr. Oliver your congress party was ruling India and Karntaka for the last 50 years and because of their wrong doing all these problems people have to face in karntaka and the new Government has to suffer a lot because of all the wrong planning done by the Congress and JDS parties. So before commenting on any person find out who are responsible for all these problems.

Relocate ?? yes, they should be. By the government by giving alternative land or do everything to protect the coast with proper embankment and raising fortifications against the erosion caused during the monsoon. People in the area have only this land abd be it old only this house. Who will take care to move them? what is the role of the government? If government is not doing it why do we need a government and why do we need to belong to a nation??? are we aliens and fron the outer world and at the mercy of the stars and gods????
