Bengaluru: Milk Federation to fell 1500 trees, environmentalists worried

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Sep 27: The felling of 1,500 trees to build the Karnataka Milk Federation’s (KMF) Bull Mother Farm has put environmentalists and green activists to worry.

The Karnataka government sanctioned 100 acres of land for the farm in 2013 at Byatha, a village in Hesaraghatta on the city’s outskirts.

The trees need to be felled as KMF is planning to set up administration and research centres on 25 acres and grass will be grown on the remaining 75 acres.

Environmentalists are worried that felling trees will affect the rich flora and fauna, especially the bird population.

KMF joint director B Mayanna assures that the tree loss will be compensated with afforestation programmes. KMF has deposited Rs 5 lac with the Forest Department which will plant 5,000 saplings, of which 600 have been planted already, he said.

In May this year, Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation had felled 30 silver oak trees on the Hesaraghatta Main Road as they feared they were a threat to the power lines.

We should not lose sight of the fact that if we do not take care for nature, that will sound our death knell. When we were school going children, Mangalore used to receive copious rainfall - it used to rain cats and dogs for days and nights without a break - but look at the current sorry state of affairs. Development has taken a heavy toll of our forests and the result is very scanty rains. If this condition is not remedied, I am afraid there will be a day when people will not have water to drink. Please grow as many trees as you can and help preserve nature. At no cost should trees be cut.

My grandparents had told me during his childhood there were lots of trees and they never had any shortages of rain.
Today humans have cut down trees and we are facing drought. It's up to us to save trees.

    No trees means No rain

Mohan sir, I feel sad you don't care for the birds or trees.
You must have seen lots of birds in your life and enjoyed their presence. That is why give a chance for your grand children (future generations) to see them , else you have to explain to them showing pictures of birds .
