Bengaluru: Email from unknown accuses Infosys of spreading terrorism

Bengaluru, Sep 30: Senior officials of well known IT company, Infosys have received an email from an unknown person accusing the company of spreading terrorism. The company has lodged a police complaint against the unknown sender.

The email was received from Alpesh Patel from email patelbalpesh@yahoo.com. It has been sent to chief financial officer M D Ranganath, Sandeep Mahindroo, head, investor relations, and company secretary Manikantha AGS.

The email is said to contain vulgar messages accusing Infosys of spreading terrorism in the society. The sender has also claimed that he has sent emails to President Donald Trump and US government and also to Pranab Mukherjee, former president of India warning them not to assign work to Infosys.

Cyber crime police attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have registered a case under the section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of Information Technology Act 2008.

People convicted under the section may face jail term of up to three years and Rs 5 lac fine for first-time offence. It attracts jail term of up to five years with Rs 10 lac fine for subsequent convictions.
