Udupi, Jun 9: The traffic on the national highway was affected for some time, after three trucks got involved with accidents near Moodabettu-Kallapu in Katpady near here, on Sunday noon.

It all started when a truck driver lost control over his truck that was speeding towards Mangalore from Udupi while negotiating Kallapur bridge. The truck that smashed the protective barrier of the bridge, fortunately stopped short of jumping into the river and dangled with a portion of the truck in mid-air. The truck driver jumped out and fled the scene. The cleaner later came down after some efforts and informed, that the same truck had met with a minor accident near Hubli on Saturday. There are chances, that the negligence on the part of the truck driver caused both these accidents. None was injured in this accident.

Sometime later, the driver of a lorry that was moving towards Udupi saw the truck balancing on the edge of Kallapu bridge, and applied brakes for having a clear picture of what had happened. In the process, his truck collided head on with another oncoming truck at the same spot, resulting in injuries to two persons.

The injured are identified as Basavaraj(28) from Dharwad who was driving the truck moving towards Udupi and cleaner of the opposite truck, Mohammed Mustafa(23) from Katipalla. The Kaup police acted briskly to pave way for smooth traffic on the highway immediately thereafter.
