Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 6: In connection with a reference made to clandestine ISIS operations in coastal Karnataka by South Karnataka Salafi Movement leader, Ismail Shafi, he was questioned by the police on second day on Thursday October 5. The questioning session was conducted on the basis of audio of the leader that was shared in social website.

It is said that during the questioning, the police have gathered some important information. The police team which participated in the exercise was drawn both from the district police and city commissionerate. Sources said that if found necessary, the leader would be summoned again on Friday.

The police are keeping the information they have collected so far a closely guarded secret in view of its communally sensitive nature. Further investigation is likely to be undertaken on the basis of information now gathered.

Addressing a private meeting sometime back, Shaffi had called upon people to be wary of a gang which is trying to mislead young people in the district like in Kerala and that care should be exercised about them. Indirectly he has mentioned about the organization involved with encouraging people to join ISIS. After the audio, which is in Beary language, was shared in social website, it has given rise to controversy.

The police, who got the speech translated, have subjected Shaffi to intensive questioning. The police are concentrating on likely contacts of ISIS in the district and allegation about a leader of Kerala Madrassa having been involved with the racket.

Superintendent of police of Dakshina Kannada district said that some information has been collected during the two days of questioning of Ismail Shafi and that all the details cannot be revealed in view of their sensitive nature.

First of all we must applaud this man as he agreed its his audio note. And boldly accepting to cope up with police investigation, but if he is daily quizzed like this ,then those who know and want to share details ,seeing this will not come forward. So police officers be friendly and media please cover it when its concluded .These matters should be between government and those officers as we all know anyone might get alert and run away.By now who have joined might escape also.
We need men like shafi to keep warning youths about such things.

Why police are questioning a preacher who cautions youngsters to be vary of influence of ISIS? Did he say anything wrong? I think, he conveys the real meaning of Islam - stay away from terrorists influence. He is not fueling communal hatred the way Kaladka Bhat does and so many other Hindutva leaders do - all of them are scot free and the police never venture into even questioning them! This is really a disgrace.

Convict him or put him behind the bars if he is guilty of fueling and recruiting youngsters to join ISIS but don't harass a genuine preacher for cautioning the youth to stay away from such influence. Are our police really good in harassing the right and garlanding the wrong? In that case, we need to change their name from Police to Poli.

They're talking to him to find out what he knows. He's not an accused, he's not under an investigation. They'll use the information he gives to get to the youngsters that may be getting influenced by ISIS. This normal operating procedure.

    Dear Bhandara,
You are absolutely correct. Instead of action on the tips provided by this leader, our police are treating him as a suspect. This shows how messed up our situation is. Both police and govt are under tremendous pressure from Muslim and Pseudo-secular groups to ignore these real threats. They want everyone to focus only on Hindutva elements. This is the sad state of our society. Even media like this one are not really interested in exposing truth as it goes against their agenda.

Arrest him till the investigation is over. (I’m not telling he is culprit)
If is not found guilty leave him
If he knows he is guilty he ll go abroad.
When the investigations are coming to final stage culprits knows they ll b arrested so they last hope is go abroad.
