Bengaluru: High Court acquits serial killer Cyanide Mohan in one rape and murder case

Bengaluru, Oct 25: Notorious serial killer 'Cyanide' Mohan's death sentence, awarded by the sessions court of Mangaluru in the rape and murder of Leelavathi of Vamadapadav near Bantwal was commuted to five years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000 by the High Court on Tuesday, October 24.

The divisional bench of Justice Ravi Malimath and Justice John Michael D'Cunha stated that the prosecution has failed to prove that the victim was indeed drugged and killed by Mohan. The bench found Mohan guilty of only robbing the valuables from Leelavathi for which he was awarded the said punishment.

Mohan had moved to High court seeking the quashing of the death sentence awarded to him by the sessions court of Mangaluru in this particular rape and murder case.

Mohan is already serving life imprisonment for the rape and murder of Anita, of Kolimane in Bantwal taluk.

It may be recalled that between 2004 and 2009 Mohan is said to have killed more than 20 women.

    This man killed 20 girls for gold and money. He told to wear as much gold as possible when come with him. Poor girls wore. He selected poor girls who have no money to get marry. Thinking that they got good husband they followed him and killed by Cyanide killer. He raped before night.

    In India if Killer kills in front of somebody then he is a killer otherwise he is not a murderer. Supreme court needs evidence. If died girls come then supreme court will get evidence. Again and again govt. is announcing care for a girl child. And this is care Govt is givng to girls. And they release rape and murderers saying that no evidence.

    Cyanide Mohan should be given punishment so that he should remember all girls life. At the end he should be hanged.

    Liberty statue holding balance in her hand with eyes covered saying that justice should be absolute finds its place in our Indian court rooms. Behind the statue, we also have a invisible statement saying "INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY". Name it cyanide Mohan, Stamp paper Telgi, L. K. Advani, Gujrat riots main accused who was denied US visa and the Priest burning accused Dara Singh, all of them are taking shelter under this slogan.

    Justice delayed is justice denied is sorry to hear but unfortunately our judiciary ignores this logical warning.

    As per our legal system, if the dead women's' soul is expected to come and provide proof, Cyanide Mohan will be walking free very soon.

    Can not resist to appreciate the intelligence of the murderer Cyanide Mohan.
    He has committed the crimes with no clues left behind, he had not taken any public prosecutor for himself in the courts and he had argued himself for him!!

    Please do not interpret Jihad wrongly, there is nothing called Love jihad.
    Jihad means struggling or striving. In religious sense Jihad has many meanings. It can refer to internal as well as external efforts to be a good Muslim or believer as well as working to inform people about the faith.
    In Military Jihad is to protect the faith. It can be performed using anything from Legal, diplomatic, and economic to political means. If there is not peaceful alternative, Islam also allows the use of force, but there are strict rules of engagement INNOCENTS- SUCH AS WOMAN, CHILDREN, OR INVALIDS-MUST NEVER BE HARMED, AND ANY PEACEFUL OVERTURES FROM THE ENEMY MUST BE ACCEPTED.

    Again we repeat judicial and investigation system of India needs a revamp very badly.

    People cannot expect justice to be delivered with the current system in place.

    Few points to note:

    1. Investigation agency to be well equipped with technology and well trained. Facts gathering system should be robust. Current police do not have this now.
    2. Case registering authority understands the law very well and should be well trained. Current police do not have this now.
    3. Judicial recruitment needs a major revamp. People who can understand the world we are living and with good legal competency should be recruited.
    4. Judges should have proper training not only in terms of law but also on general awareness.

    Instead introducing new policies, Supreme court must seriously look into cases which should be put on fast track and punish the culprits. Here what happens is the case never ends and the justice seekers lose their precious lives running behind justice. Cynide Mohan's case should have been closed soon after he was caught and he should have been hanged long years back. I am really surprised to see after so many years of rape and murders court is trying to prove whether he had done the crime. Really shocked on the developments. He was punished for theft only Rs.5000 and 5 years imprisonment. What about murder and who had murdered Leelavathi. Suspense thriller, ...........

    It's been 8 years since this crime came to light. I was doing my post graduation studies then. In the time gone by, I've got a good job, got settled in life, have a great family,(praise God) .

    And all this time, all the affected families await justice. As someone has mentioned, justice delayed is justice denied
