Bengaluru: BJP alleges Congress prepared President's speech, CM denies

Bengaluru, Oct 25 (IANS): After BJP MLAs alleged that the ruling Congress "forced" President Ram Nath Kovind to praise Tipu Sultan, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Wednesday that his speech was not prepared by the state government.

"We have not prepared the President's speech. We have not even sent any note to the Rashtrapati Bhavan," he said in a statement.

After the President referred to Tipu Sultan as a "pioneer" in the development of Mysore rockets (iron-casted rockets for military use) and that he died a "historic death" fighting the British, Karnataka BJP leaders alleged the speech was "scripted" by the state.

"The speech was a deliberate attempt by the Congress to make the President praise Tipu Sultan," senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa said after the joint session of the state legislature marking the diamond jubilee of Vidhana Soudha.

Siddaramaiah insisted that Kovind's speech was the "President's own".

"Some leaders are unnecessarily creating a controversy out of the issue. It is very unfortunate and condemnable," he said.

The President's words came just few days after Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde, a BJP leader, called Tipu a "brutal killer, wretched fanatic and mass rapist", ahead of the state's Tipu Jayanti celebrations to mark his birth anniversary on November 10.

The BJP has been opposing the celebrations calling Tipu "anti-Hindu and anti-Kannada".

    That is BJP culture.
They are mentally & physically, disillusioned with jealousy, envy and falsehood.
“Envy is the desire to have what someone else has. Jealousy is the fear of losing what you have. The more insecure you are about yourself or your relationship, the more jealous you are!
Let them raise the question and clarify their doubts with the President of our Country.

It’s better to give cheddis small portion in Andaman Nicobar to rule and do their own business like cow protection, no burka, no slaughterhouse, no new year celebration, no valentine’s day celebration, let them call whatever the name of that portion whether Hindu country, Sangha state etc. but let us Indians leave peacefully without divisive politics same as we used to live for 4 years.

If PM appreciate Tipu tomorrow, they may say Sonia Gandhi prepared the speech and give to Modi to read, what a joke yaar, grow up!.
    Jai Bharat!

There are some genuine grievances against Tipu rule. It is part of our history that also witnessed British occupation. Now that all are behind us, and we have an identity, a nation hood, history needs to be remembered so that we learn from it and do not commit mistakes of the past. Tipu Jayanthi need not have been this grand at the tax payer's expense. They could rather have diverted the resources to repair the debilitated roads of Bangalore that are meting hardship on the common man.

Our political leaders need to be mature rather than indulge in finger pointing and score settling. Sad part is vast public are fed with these useless arguments on the media and are distracted from the real issues facing our country, its people and its well being.

I think the various state BJP units are completely losing the plot across the country.

    • Firstly, the Taj Mahal row in UP, then came the GST/demonetization/Christianity row in TN, then the cow-PG shelter in Haryana, then the corruption bill in Rajasthan and now Tipu Sultan row in Karnataka. What next? Landing of Vasco-da-Gama in Kerala in 1498? Or Alexander’s entry into India?

    • Secondly, for God sake leave the President out of this petty politics of Hind-upmanship and Muslim downgrading. No wonder the BJP Government is not able to track down the black-money trail. If they are not able to find out the simple fact as to who wrote the President’s message, how can we expect them to find out the black-money trail?

    • Thirdly, everyone has their own perspective as to whether Tipu Sultan and Shah Jahan did good or bad to the country. But do these BJP duffers think that life has just frozen in time? There seems to be absolute disregard to the fact that these events took place in the 18th century. For the sake of argument, even if I accept that everything that that Tipu Sultan and Shah Jahan did was factually correct. SO WHAT? What exactly do you want us to do about it now? I do not have the option of choosing the history of my country neither does anyone else. And if righting the wrongs of history is the objective, then where do we stop? How far into history will you go?

Modi and Shah may be strong leaders at the Central; Sushma swaraj may be liked by a lot by the masses. But scratch any further from the cabinet rank, the dearth of talent within the BJP ranks clearly shows up.

It is a ludicrous accusation, to say the least. He is the President of the Republic of India and not someone from the road to just read what is given him. He is an educated person - an advocate - and if at all there was anything out of the way, he would have pointed it out. Since nothing of that sort has happened, all this talk of someone misleading him is just rubbish.
