Mangaluru: Stranger attacks lonely lady, loots jewellery worth lacs

Mulky, Oct 26: In a daring daylight dacoity that took place in a house at Kolnad near mulky on NH66 jewellery worth lacs of rupees was stolen after a stranger attacked the lonely lady at home in the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct 25.

Sharada Shetty, wife of Prabhakar Shetty, resident of Kolnadu guthu, is the woman who was attacked. She is admitted to a hospital in Mukka.

A stranger entered the house of Sharada Shetty on the pretext of verifying whether they have paid the Mescom electricity bill. As Sharada started enquiring more on the purpose of his visit, he hit her head and snatched the chain on her neck. Then he entered the room of the house from where he took all the golden ornaments worth lacs of rupees, which were kept ready as the marriage of their daughter is round the corner.

Attacker is believed to be of oil black complexion and supposed to be wearing blue shirt and Jeans pant. Neighbours suspect that the robber escaped with the person who was waiting on bike in the highway.

Uma, DCP, Mangaluru crime branch, Rajendra, DCP, Anantha Padmanabha, Inspector, Mulky, Shanthappa, SI visited the house with police dogs and finger print experts.

    I dont think she must have told.I doubt,he must have known of wedding and the gold is kept inside.Some insider tip surely got from neighbour or some sweeper lady?Hope the lady will survive without much injury and live till daughters marraige.Gold can be replaced but not a person.

    Story looks to be cooked...
    MESCOM people never come inside home as the meters are always installed outside the home...
    Even if the MESCOM person wants to come inside, I don't think any lady will open the door..

    Either the lady is so foolish or there is a conspiracy...

    Better safe than sorry
    1.Leave a radio playing quietly when you go out to give impression that some one is at home.
    2.Keep a dog to protect you all the time.Place a beware of dog sign in your windows.
    3.Dont hide a key outside the door,under mats,flower pots or under rocks, .Leave one with a trusted neighbour.
