Bengaluru, Oct 26: National vice president of Congress party, Rahul Gandhi, has cancelled his proposed visit to Karnataka for three days from November 19 for taking part in Indira Gandhi birth centenary celebrations. All India Congress Committee (AICC) sources claim that Rahul took this step as he has decided to take charge as the national president of the party on November 19.

As per the itinerary already fixed, Rahul was scheduled to take part in Indira Gandhi birth centenary programme at Chiikkamagaluru on November 19. On November 20, he was to take part in road shows at Kadur and Birur besides chairing a conference of party workers at Shivamogga. On November 21, a fishermen's convention was to be held at Kumta. Relating to these programmes, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, Dr G Parameshwar, had organized preliminary meetings.

Although KPCC had requested AICC to conduct its session in the city, the party leadership is likely to reject this proposal. It is said that a one-day AICC session is proposed to be held either at New Delhi or Punjab. After sometime, a three-day session may be held in the city, sources say.
