Mangaluru: Man attempts suicide in drunken stupor, saved by passer-by

Mangaluru, Oct 26: A man who was seemingly drunk attempted suicide at Netravati bridge near Ullal here on the night of Thursday October 26. He was saved by a passerby.

Dayanand (48), a resident of Padil, reportedly attempted to jump off the Netravati bridge.

It is learnt that a bike rider who was passing by stopped on seeing Dayanand, and was able to rescue him in the nick of time.

Soon, other locals also joined in to help Dayanand.

The reason behind attempting suicide is not yet known. Dayanand was allegedly in a state of drunken stupor.

Ullal police arrived at the spot.

    There should be a Cc camera for bridge monitoring.

    And the side walls should atleast 4 feet high. So that no gets tempted to Jump

    @Ramesh mangalore,I think you didnt have any experience with drunken people.Ths person is not only drunken but looks complete suffering from liver cirrohoesis.His liver is funktions no more I feel yellow like banana.People drink a bit first as time pass ,or to show his presence.later it becomes a sickness,cant stop drinking.last liver is too doesnt function.Poor fellow.He must have not realized it is a bridge ,river.Many familys are broken down because of this drinking habit.It is like drugs .When someone have pity and take them to this unannonymous club or make them to give off their habit would be great help.First they dont come out of shy and people will come to know about him etc,but many times that is the last step to save one.should be consequent behind them.No tablets help it ,but their own wille.

    Rita, I guess you are a Doctor/nurse which made you identify what the person is going through. In a hurry to highlight your profession you may have not noticed that the streetlights that we have is Incandescent which is "yellow like Banana".

    Whatever his problems be I hope it gets sorted out.
