Mangaluru: CRZ draft plan ready - Nov 7 last date for filing objections

Mangaluru, Oct 29: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, explained that the people have time till November 7 to file objections about the draft map of Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ). He said that the people can study the draft plan sent to the respective gram panchayats and other local bodies in detail and submit their objections or suggestions in writing till the above deadline.

He was speaking at a meeting held at Town Hall here on Saturday October 28 to receive objections for the CRZ draft map. He reiterated that the draft map now published relating to the implementation of CRZ notification - 2011 is very important and that it will be enforced within a few months from now.

"The government has given time to enable the concerned to study its advantages and lacunae if any in detail and file objections. The respective gram panchayats, city municipalities, town municipalities, and city corporations, have been furnished with copies of the draft map. It is also available in the government website. People can study the same,hold discussions, verify, and send in writing their objections or suggestions either to the deputy commissioner of the district or the officials of the department of environment," he explained.

Former president of Mogaveera Mandali, Yathish Baikapady, wanted to regulate release of untreated effluents into the sea and that the draft map should contain measures to handle this issue. Fishermen's leader, Shobhendra Sasihitlu, wanted the CRZ central office, which is now at Bengaluru, to be shifted to coastal Karnataka. Former president of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and IndustrieS, Jeevan Saldanha, wanted mention about measures to encourage tourism in the coast in the draft map. President of Ullal municipality, Hussain Kunhimonu and councillor, Muhammed Mukkacheri, drew the attention towards the problems encountered by people living in Ulal area. They wanted a meeting to be held in Ullal municipal office to discuss CRZ draft map.

Member of Halengady gram panchayat, Ashok Bangera, stated that over 10,000 applications filed by farmers under rule 94 cc were pending in the region because of CRZ problems. City corporator, Revathi Puthran, president of Kanara Small Scale Industries Association Bykampady president, Gaurav Hegde, Prabhakar Salian, Gregory Peres, Sherill and Shasheendra came out with their opinions.

Dr Dinesh, regional environmental director of the department of environment, who delivered introductory address, explained that most of the areas which were included in CRZ - 1, also form part of CRZ - 2 being implemented now, and that opportunities have been provided to undertake development activities in this draft. He said that the draft will be sent to the state government after November 7, and that the state has to submit the draft map to central government within six months, and it has to be approved within the next four months.

Additional deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Kumar, forest deputy conservator Srinivasa Murthy and others were present. Environment officer, Mahesh, welcomed.

    I suggest you check with the CRZ office before commenting. The present draft copy seems "people friendly"

    How do you know ..it is people friendly ..... Do you have any idea of parametres laid down in the draft .... Is the rule is restricted to 200 or 100 meters

    Why are CRZ rules more conservative in coastal Karnataka compared to Goa & Kerala?

    Any one having a land and house in the CRZ zone, can demolish the old house and build a big house / villa .... Another person having a vacant land ( without house ) next to this land,,, can not build a new house for his stay... Can any one explain, what is the logic in the Tughlak CRZ rules ....
