Modi praises cleanliness campaign in Maharashtra fort


New Delhi, Oct 29 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed the efforts of an NGO that ran a 200-day campaign to clean a fort at Chandrapur in Maharshtra.

The Ecological Protection Organisation launched the cleanliness campaign at the Chandrapur Fort in August.

In his his monthly radio broadcast 'Mann Ki Baat', Modi highlighted the story of the fort's transformation.

"People performed the task of cleaning the fort, non-stop, without any fatigue... 200 days of continuous labour," he said. "They sent me photographs -- before and after. I was overwhelmed on seeing them."

"This mammoth effort of bringing about cleanliness is a wonderful example of fostering aesthetics, co-operation and continuum. Forts are symbols of our heritage. And it is the duty of all to keep their historical heritage safe and clean," he added.
