'Hopeless' Congress shamelessly joined voice for 'Kashmir azadi': Modi in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Oct 29 (Deccan Chronicle): In a stinging attack on the Congress on the Kashmir issue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, accused it of "shamelessly" taking a U-turn and lending its voice for "Kashmir's azadi", a language spoken by Pakistan.

Modi's sharp comments came a day after senior Congress leader P Chidambaram pitched for greater autonomy for the restive Jammu and Kashmir yet again.

He told BJP workers in Bengaluru that his government would not compromise with the country's unity and integrity.

"All of a sudden, those who were in power till yesterday have taken a U-turn. Shamelessly, they are making a statement and are lending their voice for Kashmir's azadi," Modi said.

Without taking Chidambaram's name, the prime minister said, "I'm surprised that those who were in power at the Centre, those who were responsible for the country's internal security and national security (are saying this)."

Modi said the country had no hope or expectations from the Congress.

Noting that Sardar Patel took important decisions for the country's unity, he said thousands of jawans have sacrificed their lives for Kashmir.

"The country's soldiers have sacrificed their lives every moment for the sake of security of the motherland and innocent citizens of Kashmir. I want to ask the people of Bengaluru, can the country benefit from such people who are playing politics on the sacrifice of our soldiers? They don't have any shame in saying this. The Congress party will have to give an answer for this (Chidambaram's) statement...," he said.

Modi said, "Those brave hearts who have sacrificed their lives, mothers who have lost their sons for the country... that mother is asking the question, that sister who has lost

her brother is asking the question and the child who has lost his father is asking the question."

But, he said, the Congress was "shamelessly using such language that is used by the separatists on Kashmir's land. (They are) using the language that is spoken by Pakistan."

Underlining that this was the land of Sardar Patel, he said, "We will not compromise with the country's unity and integrity and we will not allow it happen."

Chidambaram had told reporters in Rajkot in poll-bound Gujarat on Saturday, "The demand in the Kashmir Valley is to respect the letter and spirit of Article 370, that means they want greater autonomy. My interactions in Jammu and Kashmir led me to the conclusion that when they ask for azadi, mostly, I am not saying all... the overwhelming majority, they want autonomy."

"Yes, I do," Chidambaram said when he was asked if he still thinks that Jammu and Kashmir should be given greater autonomy.

Chidambaram had in July 2016 advocated greater autonomy for Jammu and Kashmir, saying India should restore the "grand bargain" under which Kashmir had acceded by granting a large degree of autonomy to it.

He had warned that otherwise the country will have to pay a "heavy price".

The Congress, however, has sought to distance itself from the remarks of Chidambaram on Kashmir, saying the "opinion of an individual is not necessarily the opinion of the party".

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala had said Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and "will always remain so unquestionably."

Reacting sharply, the BJP, on Saturday, said it was not surprising to see Chidambaram make such comments given his leader supported those who gave slogan of "Bharat tere tukde honge", an apparent reference to Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi backing those who protested the arrest of student leader Kanhaiya Kumar in the JNU row.

Kumar, then the JNUSU president, and a few others were arrested on the charge of sedition after anti-national slogans were allegedly raised at an event on the campus in February last year to protest the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

"Shocking that PC bats for separatists and 'azadi' but then not surprising given that their leader supported 'Bharat tere tukde honge' naara!" Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani had tweeted.

"Shameful given that PC spoke in Gujarat, the birthplace of Sardar Patel; a man who dedicated his life for the unity and prosperity of India," she added.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had accused the Congress of encouraging separatism in Jammu and Kashmir and said Chidambaram's statement "hurt" India's national interest which was a serious issue.

"Whether this statement which has come from a prominent leader of the Congress party is the party's official stand or not? I think the party should immediately clarify that," he had said in Mumbai.

Congress has miserably failed to solve kashmir problem in 55 years. It is a shame to say that Modi has not done enough on the issue.Pakistan is involved in cross border terrorism since 70 years.Modi tried diplomacy first and when it was not working befitting surgical strike was done.Even some opposition leaders including Congress leaders doubted the surgical strike to justify statement of Pakistan. In other countries atleast on national security all parties are united and take uniform stand. In India dirty politics is played in everythingCongress has not learnt lessons by losing elections after elections.

Modiri always acts on multiple perspectives.
First he tried his best inviting PAK & China to his swearing in ceremony as PM.
Followed by exchange of gifts, sharing a meal etc. When things were not moving in right direction, surgical strike and the problems still looming without any prospects for peace nor any permanent solution to Kashmir issue. The leaders should workout to resolve this issue on some basis agreeable to both the countries.
With China not less. When China was proposing building new silk route and to the proposed meeting among 70 countries,
India remained absent. The country has boycotted the Belt and Road Initiative, mainly due to concerns over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a key part of the initiative.
Today's leaders should work together to bring peace for tomorow's world.

If you see the history of Kashmir, It was independent state until 1947, it never been part of British East India, It was under King rule with Muslim majority, So, it neither belong to Pakistan nor India, Kashmir belongs to Kashmiris. So in such case, the referendum will be a wise decision. But truth is bitter for some......

First they use Gujarat Model of development in 2014 and that has fizzled out, then congress mukth bharath that also has fizzled, then make in india, start up India, wake up India and so on all failed and when BJP is dipped in huge corruption they talk about congress corruption. The prime minister of nation who has 56inch chest but low IQ on Indian freedom fight can only resort to such shameless cheap politics.
The country which Gandhi ji always dreamt of is lost in the clouds of corruption and crime. After 65 golden years of independence, its time that we wake up from slumber and face the hurdles that are yet to be conquered. I know that the patriotism is still there, the slogan-“Bharat mata ki jai”, still rings loud in every Indian’s ears. The need of the hour is to spread awareness and brace ourselves again for a revolution, the revolution that Subhash Chandra Bose once started-“Tum muje khoon do, main tumhe azadi dunga” (give me blood and I will give you freedom). Countless young men gave their lives a century back in search of freedom. Numerous leaders and brave men lead the country towards their ultimate goal of Azadi (freedom).
Today India again needs some heroes, some blood with fire and the wave of change that could make India, ‘The India’ that the heroes of our country sacrificed their lives imagining. We still have tears in our eyes when we recap our country’s history and see the torture that we went through.
That time is here again, a time where we have to raise our voice against injustice and corruption.
It’s time we fight again for our Azadi !
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose slogans that are gifted to us by our freedom fighters and leaders who whole-heartedly sacrificed their lives so that their fellow Indians could live in a free nation !
Urging the youth of India to join the Indian National Army in the struggle for independence of India, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose used this slogan. This inspired thousands of young minds to sacrifice their lives for their motherland.
When the Indian economy is in shambles and public sector bank loan has crossed more than $145 billion or 9.6 trillion indian rupees, PM Modi has nothing to show development other than 'Kashmir azadi' blaming Congress & copying its policies.
    Cheap politics

Of course Chidu did not use the Urdu word "Azad" but he did mention the English word "autonomy." Now what does he mean by greater autonomy? The Kashmiris have their own elected state government on par with governments of other states. It is the only state in the country to have its own flag. Students from Kashmir study in Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune. They are free to buy property and settle anywhere in India while people of other states can visit Kashmir only as tourists. On the contrary people in rest of India do not possess reciprocal rights. What more do they want? The majority community has driven away the minorities who living in Delhi and other states as refugees. Doesn’t Chidu understand that these people are solely instigated by Pakistan?

India is a union of many cultures & Nations. Each state & region is unique & separate and may have democratic, peaceful or forceful right to get separation from Indian Dominion like the States of former Soviet union. Political Leaders should be careful and avoid criticize a particular culture, religion, casts, state and region. Political ambitions may one day lead to the disintegration of India because India never was a Country until 1947.
