1 killed, 57 injured as old iron bridge collapses in Kollam


Kollam, Oct 30 (Agencies): One woman died and 57 persons have been injured after an old iron bridge which was used as walkway collapsed in Chavara near Kollam.

The deceased has been identified as Shyamala from Chavara.

The incident happened at around 10:30 am. It is learnt that at around 70 employees of Kerala Minerals and Metals were on the bridge when the incident took place.

Meanwhile, the injured have been shifted to the nearby hospitals. Search on for the missing persons who are believed to be drowned in the lake.

    May be old Bridge. With out maintenance. Sad news.
    Now we have to give first priority to GURPUR bridge. It is of British time. No maintenance. Nobody bothered so far.
