Mangaluru: DC’s order not implemented - New Aadhar centres yet to start

Mangaluru, Oct 30: As Aadhar card is made mandatory to avail the benefits of most of the government plans, general public is desperate to get their name registered on Aadhar card. However, their plight is aggravated by the handful Aadhar registration centres available in the city.

Though the deputy commissioner (DC) has ordered a month ago for the opening of seven new Aadhar registration centres in and around the city, the order is yet to be implemented.

At present there are only four Aadhar card registration centres and people are forced to stand in long ques. As public complained about the slowness of work in these centres due to various reasons, Dr K G Jagadeesh, former DC, had ordered for the opening of seven new Aadhar centres. It is really surprising that the same is not yet implemented.

According to the staff working at Mangaluru One registration centres, the number of people coming for correction on their existing Aadhar cards or loss of Aadhar card is more than those who are coming for new registration. Earlier when there were 28 registration centres the registration work was carried out in a faster manner. Most of these were closed after the public complained about data theft by the private companies.

This government is making fool of people. Denying food ration and essential things just be on sole identity of aadhar card and its linkage is injustice to humans in a democracy. This central government thinks that by making aadhar mandatory all problems will be solved. They do not have adequate infrastructure like internet connection, computers, manpower for seamless implementation especially in rural areas , protection of privacy of individuals yet they want to make compulsory for all sundry things. Things will get worse if same situation continues. People have to suffer for no fault of them.

We are being considered fools in every way. How can the country make Aadhar mandatory while we don't even have tools and mechanism to provide it to everyone. How can we stay in Que for hours to get Aadhar. Its like Demonetization. Now by using Aadhar the government will rob even what is left in our account.

    From UIDAI website:

    "Can NRIs also get Aadhaar?
As per the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016, only a resident who has resided in India for a period or periods amounting in all to 182 or more in the 12 months immediately preceding the date of application for enrolment.''
