China mulls criminal action for disrespect to national anthem


Beijing, Oct 31 (IANS): China's top legislature is considering to amend the country's Criminal Law to include penalties for disrespect to national anthem, a media report said on Tuesday.

A draft amendment to this effect was submitted for the lawmakers' deliberation at the bi-monthly session of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, which started on Monday.

According to the draft, violators may face up to three years of imprisonment, Xinhua news agency reported.
