I am Pained to See my Wife's Death making Headlines - Ragupathi Bhat

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jun 27: In a letter to a leading daily newspaper recently in response to various articles, stories and reports appearing everywhere, Raghupathi Bhat not only regretted the senseless comments and allegations being made against himself and his wife through various forums and stood by his version given to the police, holding Atul Rao entirely responsible for all his woes.

Refuting allegations of a rift between himself and his wife, he said he totally trusts his wife to the fullest and that there was no occasion for any misunderstanding to crop up between them.

"Both my family and the parents and siblings of Padmapriya knew how deeply we were in love with one another" he stated. Bhat expressed his deep pain at accusations, concocted stories and baseless insinuations that were spread by the media, print, electronic and worldwide web about his and his wife's character.

File Picture

Painting Atul Rao as an innocent man or victim of circumstances would be grossly incorrect. He was my childhod friend, acted like my close friend even after abducting my wife he acted like helping me to locate her, all along scheming to ruin me. I am pained to see stories  about my wife's death making headlines, containing false allegations without verifying the truth with me, my family members or the parents of Padmapriya, he said.

Being in a position of responsibility and representing a political party, I know my limits and the extent to which any slip on my side would be exploited by detraactors, Bhat claimed,  shooting down stories making rounds about his character.

I have total faith in the legal system and whenever I was approacahed by somebody, I have given information which is correct. I refuse to be hunted down by ciritizms and malicious propaganda. My wife took the responsibility of my family,my old and sick father and extended total support during the electioneering. Rumours of divorce etc., are unfounded and unacceptable.

If she was not comfortable with me, she would have discussed with my family mebers or hers. Even if she had given any information on this count to Atul, it was his duty to bring it to the notice of myself, my family or Padmapriya's family.  He conjured up the abduction drama, kept my wife in a flat taken in his name and acted like helping in searching her. I feel Padmapriya, who was totally innocent, would have been blackmailed into accompanying him. Atul is entirely responsible for my wife's death and he should be punished. The police should deeply investigate the case and make public all the facts, Bhat demanded.

Daijiworld tried to extract Atul's response to what Bhat has said, but he could not be contacted inspite of our best efforts.

Atul Rao in Delhi

Meanwhile, the Udupi police, who have been hitting the trail and following the sequence of the case duly accompanied by Atul Rao who is in their custody, are learnt to have taken him to New Delhi after visiting Kumta and Goa where they conducted investigations, inverviews and verified records. It is learnt, that he was taken to Shama Apartment where Padmapriya's body was found, today morning. The police have been pooling information about the people who helped Atul at Delhi apart from obtaining statements from neighbourers, security staff of the apartment etc., with the help of the policemen there.

Atul Rao, who is said to have applied for voluntary retirement a month but that the application is yet to be accepted. He had applied for a month's leave just before the police took him in their possession, but this leave is yet to be sanctioned. Padmapriya too is reported to have applied for a job in a call centre in Delhi through the internet and the call centre had accepted to offer her a job.

In tune with the rules, Atul Rao may be suspended if he is charged in the criminal case.

I am really pained to see the spineless opposition party in Karnataka, particularly in Udupi. See how people in north made Arushi’s murder a major news. If BJP was in the opposition and any incident like this has happened to a congree MLA, probably Udupi too might have witnessed a Curfew. But one thing is certain. No mystery will remain unearthed for ever.

The freedom of expression is grossly being misused by many readers. While everybody have an opinion about everything, it is irresponsible to cast apsersions and indulge in character assasinations without having any concrete proof.

Please, let the police conduct their investigation and the court to pass the verdict. If every case has to be investigated by CBI, why then there should state police? Who says CBI is beyond manipulation by ruling party?

Mr Ragupathi Bhat, Unfortunately your comments do not make sense. If you had such a loving relationship with your wife, she would not have run away and committed suicide. As Mr James suggested why don't you press for a CBI investigation. Let the truth prevail. You will be vindicated then and your honour restored and Mr Atul your close friend whom you today castigate will be shamed and will suffer the punishment IF HE DESERVES IT. So why not take this bold step and clear everyone's doubts once and for all.

This is just another ploy by Mr.Bhat. I hail from Udupi and have known this family for years. Padma came from a very middle class family and Mr.Bhat was quite well to do. Mr.Bhat was and still is extremely proud of his wealth and was seldom even visiting Padmapriya's mom's house.

It was only Padma who used to visit her parents regularly. Mr.Bhat hardly talks to her parents let alone anything else. Only Padma could tell us the truth of what actually happened and now she is no more! Mr.Bhat is a shrewd politician and it is sad to see him politicize this too...

If he is honest he himself should agree to a CBI inquiry. He is not telling the truth and this is another of his political gimmick to gain public sympathy!

Raghupati Bhat please take my advise if you want to get rid of your pain. Listen to the public and have a CBI enquiry done and if you are innocent you should not be scared of it. If you are really innocent CBI will prove you innocent in no time and in no time you will be relieved of your pain. What say you?

I fully agree with Mr. R. Bhat. No one has right to imagine & comment on others private life. Without solid proof we should not conclude anything. Let us wait. Truth is so strong. Unless the investigation is over, everyone including Mr. Athul Rao also innocent. I am just worried for the 2 kids who lost thier mother. No father can fulfill the mother's role. May allah give all strength to overcome the sadest duration of Mr. Bhat & his in-Laws's family.

Mr. Bhat what you have given the statements, ofcourse anybody would have given the same. But the question raises : when Padmapriya was away from home, why you was not aware? In any circumstance our Dakshina Kannadas women will never go out without Husbands consent. 2nd point why did she wanted work in Delhi instead of Udupi or Mangalore? Mr. Bhat whatever statenent you give but the facts are giving something fishy picture....

Good cover up story by Raghupati Bhat. Sadly Padmapriya is not alive to prove this right or wrong?

Mr. Bhat i want to throw a open question to you that is why did you that is 3 1 while visiting Padmapriya in the morning you reached Delhi did not take help from Dwarka police?

Was it not Mr. Jayanth Shetty's job to inform the nearest police station and take help from them?

How could you go to a all together different state with Karnataka Police? Now the issue here is did Jayanth Shetty go to Delhi as a Government officer or he was acting senseless at the behest of Sunil Kumar and Raghupati Bhat?

After barging into her flat why did Sunil Kumar have to speak to her in a very insulting manner to Padmapriya and go to the extent of hitting Atul left right and center?

After Padmapriya refused to come back with Raghupati,Sunil kumar and Jayanth Shetty why did they latch the door from outside?

After they have latched the door from outside how in the world she could go out to buy a rope?

Mr. Raghupati Bhat people know much more than they should dont expect all mouths to be shut. The truth is all out. Wait for the next revelation.

Mr. Bhat should first know and if not then learn that there is no smoke without fire. So crying foul on part of his best friend is like indirectly pointing 4 fingers at himself. Why and how could he not judge a person so close to him being a foe rather than a friend?

How will he take care of his constituency with such lack of foresight and mis-judgement?

If the circumstances at his end were peaceful and rosy then why would his loving wife take such and extreme step?

There is more then meets the eye and the truth must come out. By dashing such letters it proves that there is something 6 feet under which needs to be unearthed and hope the law of the land does it.

Mr. Bhat we are all in and part of your sorrow for a innocent has lost her life. But please let the law rule.
