Mangaluru: HC serves notice on mayor for raiding skill club, arresting owner

Mangaluru, Dec 1: The state high court (HC) has served notices to city mayor and state director general of police apart from some others, relating to a case in which a raid was conducted on New Members Skill Lounge Club at Attavar here without registering first information report, and arresting the club owner.

Owner of the club, Sujitha Rai, had filed petition in the high court seeking directions to the state government for cancellation of case registered against her on the allegation of running the club without obtaining licence, and payment of compensation for arresting her without registering first information report.

The case came up for consideration before the single judge bench of the HC chaired by Justice K N Phaneendra, on Thursday November 30. The bench, which heard arguments, passed an order to serve notices on the secretary of the state home department, director general of police, Karnataka, mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), Kavitha Sanil, city police commissioner, T R Suresh, health officer, A Manjunath Shetty, and inspector of city south police station, K U Belliappa.

The bench asked the public prosecutor to furnish progress report on the registered against club owner, Sujitha Rai, to the court on December 14, before adjourning the hearing.

    This so called Mayor wants be in news every day. Why she doesn’t give much importance to looking after the development of the city rather than involving in such a petty issues. She should delegate these raiding business to the concerned officers. I don’t remember any previous mayors having a hobby of raiding games Centres, massage parlours. Why is she mis-using her precious time... because she wants to be on the news paper every day...

    Befpore conducting any raids the Mayor and other MCC staff etc. should have studied the pros and cons of the case. Why raid such places in a hurry burry manner. Its a question of owners prestige. Naturally he sought for justice.
