Mangalore, Jul 13: "When possibility fires, impossibility extinguishes" is the motivating spirit that is always glowing in her mind. She is reflective in her study, but other extra curricular activities are not alien to her. Par excellence in academics, sports, quiz, essay-writing, speech, debate and other academic and cultural competitions, she is gifted with talents many would envy her for.
Meet Nisma Ibrahim Mahmood, who bagged the fifth rank recently in second year dental course in Yenepoya Dental College, Mangalore.
Right from school days, she was clear-headed and matured in her thinking and actions while also being polite and caring toward others. She has treasured in her the richness of etiquettes that parents expect from their children. The same approach and personality have shadowed her way even after getting into a professional education.
As said earlier, her academics and extra-curricular activities always moved hand in hand. Neither was in conflict with the other. She has pocketed the recognition of being the best student in her college. She bagged the dental seat in the prestigious Yenepoya Dental College after going through a gruelling CET conducted by Karnataka state.
As the Kannada saying "Devaru Kottaru Poojari Bida", due to some technical problem in rural quota, she lost the MBBS seat, which had been her first choice and for which she had even qualified initially. Though she had felt a little worried in the beginning about the same, she kept her foregoing dictum intact and mapped out her future in dental course. The rural ambiance in which she was born and brought up never clouded her mind nor hindered her from competing with the students of urban areas in the professional college. Rather, she took it as a challenge and tried her best to be always on par, if not ahead of the scholastic bunch.
"Really, the encouragement, motivation and support from my parents, my husband, close relatives, friends and my past and present teachers/lecturers and others alike made me more confident and more serious in my studies. I am able to achieve this great milestone in the professional course all because of them", says a delighted Nisma.
When asked about her academic achievement, she says in an ecstatic tone, "I spent most of my time studying in the college hostel. During class lectures and practical classes, I used to get involved with full concentration by writing down all the points, and back in hostel I used to revise the same so as to be afresh and up-to-date. My hard efforts and God's mercy have brought me this academic accomplishment. My happiness had no bounds when I heard the announcement of the rank list of our college…I want do my post graduation (MDS) too."
She also expressed her gratitude towards the faculties of all departments of her college including the management, for whom she has high regards and is grateful for their support and encouragement.
Nisma is the daughter of Ibrahim Mahmood Yermal and Nafisa H Mayyadi who hail from Mulky and are residing in Kaup in Udupi. They are blessed with four daughters, of whom Nisma is the eldest. Her sister Sana, who is as brilliant as Nisma, is studying in second year MBBS in the same college.
Though Nisma's parents have been in Saudi Arabia for more than 20 years, they never gave up their children's education. Nisma studied in lower primary school in Dammam in the Kingdom and then higher primary and high school in Nitte Education Trust in Mulky and PUC in Vidyaniketan Public School at Kaup.
Last year, Nisma got married to Abdul Sattar Hassan from Manchakal, who is an MBA graduate, employed in a company in Jubail in the Kingdom.
When this correspondent contacted Ibrahim Mahmood and his son-in-law, Nisma's husband Sattar Hassan in Saudi Arabia, they expressed their happiness in her academic achievement with great pride and said that they would want her to be a great asset to the society in general and family in particular in the days to come.
