Mangaluru, Dec 24: 'Tulunadochchaya-2017' a two-day world convention to promote Tulu culture and language was inaugurated at Pilikula, Vamanjoor on Saturday, December 24 in a grand manner.
President of the Tulunadochchaya Organizing Committee Dr David Frank Fernandes hoisted the flag and formally declared the two-day Tulu festival open.
Tulunadochchaya committee president M E Moolur inaugurated the event.
“Differences between religions, castes and communities seem to disappear when it comes to language. Tulu makes us feel we belong to Tulunadu. It unites people. In our homes we speak different languages. But when we come out from our houses, automatically our tongue starts to speak Tulu,” Moolur said.
"We all know the richness of Tulu language. But somewhere it is slipping from our hand. Our generation is not getting proper guidance and information of this language. But programmes like Tulunadochchaya help us promote the Tulu language and culture," he said.
Presiding over the programme, David Frank Fernandes said that it is not possible to protect languages just with speeches. Tulu should be included in the 8th schedule of our constitution. Though several memorandums are submitted there is s a need to pressurize the authorities, he said.
Tulunadochchaya is a unique programme we organised for promotion of Tulu language and culture. Such programmes will not only keep the language alive, it is an excellent platform to discuss issues that affect language and culture, he said.
Earlier, a cultural procession was held from Vamanjoor to venue of the event. Mayor Kavita Sanil inaugurated the procession by breaking the coconut.
Umanath Kotian , BJP district committee member inaugurated the exhibition hall while V Prasanna, Director, Pilikula Nisargadhama inaugurated food stalls. Hemalatha Raghu Salian, Corporator inaugurated the art gallery which contains Tulunadu's history in paintings.
Umanath Kotian, Former President of Tulu Academy, Mohan Swamiji, Pontiff of Mudradi Matt , Dr . Chinnappa Gowda, Sathish Poojari, President, Billava Sangha , Dubai, Fr Cyprian Pinto, Parish Priest, Vamanjoor Church, Hemalatha Raghu Salian, Corporator, Hariprasad , President, Moodushedde Grama Panchayat, Dr Rajesh Alva, Yogesh Shetty were present.
