Good governance is key to all-round development: Modi

Noida, Dec 26 (PTI): Good governance is the key to all-around development and it is time people shun the attitude of seeking personal gains while drawing up public schemes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today.

The NDA-led Centre observes the day as 'Good Governance Day' to celebrate the birthday of former premier and BJP veteran Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

"Governance cannot happen when the dominant thought process begins at 'mera kya' (how will it benefit me) and ends at 'mujhe kya' (why should I bother). We have changed this mindset. For us, decisions are about national interest and not political gains," Modi said at a public meeting after launching a 12-km stretch of Delhi Metro's Magenta Line here.

He said while India is a prosperous country, people have been deprived of its benefits due to poor governance.

"But I have taken upon myself to change all this. It is a tough decision (for many) when they have to think whether the policy would benefit them politically," he said.

The prime minister noted that if a policy was in "black and white" and well laid out, it would leave little scope for discretion, thus bringing down corruption.

"When I came to power, newspapers used to report in box items that now officers have started coming to office on time...employees have to be more accountable," he said.

I think his secretary or personal assistant may have done it on his behalf. I wonder if he even knows it has been tweeted. Media preferred to mention about his statements on former PM Vajpayee on Christmas day but nothing about the Christmas greeting tweet. Our votes do not matter to Modi or to the BJP. May be even number of EVMs in India are higher than India's Christian population.

All that the PM said here are the very best and very right.
But only if they happen in reality.
And making it happen is not impossible!
He only has to be FIRM with not only opposition parties, but also
With his OWN party people !

You say if you are good speaker I agree, you say you have good administrator with in PMO office I agree? if you say you are a good PM in terms of Good Governance i do not agree with certain fact and points ;; Some part of the country still there are Cow lynching, Love Jehad ,and so many communal issues..If you say you are GOod PM of good governance than speak against it and punish them those who are all involved...I challenge you are the Only PM has the capacity to Stop all these but you do not interfere. If you just show your eyes to the State CM and strict instruction to Police everything will be on track all the community in india will love you as PM of india for the next 50 Years....
