Mangaluru, Dec 28: Minister for youth and sports Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated the 62nd JCI India national convention 'Natcon 2017’ here at Father Muller Convention Centre on Wednesday, December 27.

Addressing the gathering, Pramod Madhwaraj said, "This is a proud moment for me to participate in ‘Natcon 2017’. Our district is very unique in comparison to all other districts in the county. When Indira Gandhi nationalized banks a few decades ago, four of the fourteen banks were from our district. Our district occupies the topmost position in education and health sector. I can say, we do not compete with any district in India, but with Europe and United States,"

“JCI is a great organisation which functions in our society systematically and with great discipline. I have been observing the activities of JCI from the past 25 to 30 years. I noted the way it attracts youths to do good things. As per studies, 70 per cent of Indian citizens fall into the below 40 year category. Ours is the youngest nation in the world. High number of youth dwells in our country. They must be guided wisely. We need to lead them to be great leaders and citizens of this country," he added.

"Nowadays, I see a lot of youth getting into some organisations which create violence in the society. They then end up doing all unwanted things. Hence, they have to be lead into the right direction. The best way is to join JCI, as it produces the best leaders and good citizens,” he said.

Chief whip of Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza graced the event as the guest of honour.

National president of JCI Ramkumar Menon delivered the introductory speech and appreciated zone-15, the local organizers for hosting the national conference.

Y Sukumar, COC chairman, welcomed the dignitaries and delegates.

Meanwhile, JCI India 62nd national convention procession was taken out from Hotel Gold Finch to Father Muller Convention Centre, Pumpwell.

Vice-president Adani UPCL Kishore Alva, chairman JCI India foundation K Vallabhadas, convention director Sadananda Navada, treasurer Aravinda Rao Kedige, secretary Muralishyam and zone president Santhosh were present.

4-day 'Natcon 2017’ will conclude on December 30.
