Mangalore, Jul 19: A meeting was held in the office of the district superintendent of police here on Thursday July 17, to discuss the problem of frequent traffic disruptions due to the unrestricted movement of ore laden trucks.
It is learnt, that after discussing the matter at length, it was decided to approach the district deputy commissioner with certain recommendations towards easing the situation.
One of the recommendations is to allow ore laden trucks to enter the coastal districts on alternate days, ensuring that the day trucks come from Shiradi ghat does not fall on the same day on which trucks enter from Bhatkal direction. This will ensure that trucks coming from both sides at a time do not clog the traffic near Panambur. The other recommendation is to direct these trucks to park their vehicles at various connecting roads in Mangalore port area, and sparing the highway from parked vehicles.
Police sources feel, that these two decisions once implemented, will pave way for better traffic management on the Mangalore-Suratkal stretch of the highway.
