Mangaluru: 'Corpse wanted' - Jaleel Mukri's poem on communal disturbances becomes hit

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jan 8: A poem written by Jaleel Mukri on the present situation in Dakshina Kannada district has become a hit in social media.

Jaleel Mukri happens to be a non-resident Indian working in Saudi Arabia.

Currently he is on a visit to his native place, Uppinangadi, on leave.

Jaleel, who is 50, is disturbed by recent development in coastal districts of Karnataka. He has been dabbling in poetry since he was ten.

Jaleel Mukri

This poem of his, although satirical, hits a cord inside one's heart instantly because of its simple, penetrating language and it is bang on target. Perhaps, that is why it has become a craze in social media.

English Translation

Corpse wanted

Please help

Election is nearing

Want a corpse

Not of a human being

But of a Hindu

Or of a Muslim

Or of a Christian

I have a palace

My wealth will last for

Some more generations

Ambitions are natural

I wanna achieve more

Want a corpse

To reach my goal

Do not want a man

Killed by members of

His own community

Want a Hindu corpse

Killed by a Muslim

Want a dead body of Muslim

Murdered by a Hindu

Oh, election is fast approaching

Failed to feed the poor

To give shelter to homeless

To stop corruption

Am aware I did not keep up

The promises made

Wanna win one more time

Want a corpse

Poojary, Baliga, Ashraf

Danamma, Sharath, Deepak

And Basheer

Will fetch some votes

But more corpses needed

To come out victorious

In forthcoming polls

In the market of political parties

Amid competition to triumph

Corpses are sold

Dead people, murderers

Are up for auction

Please help

Cooperate kindly

Want a corpse

Want a corpse

Not of a human being

But that of a Hindu

Or of a Muslim

Or of a Christian

I appreciate this poem where it clearly demonstrates the present condition in the district. Innocents & the religions have been used here to achieve their selfish & political motives. The educated people should not support & be aware of it. No religion supports violence. Those who disturb peace be& instigate violence have no religion. Even educated support violence ... we don't want peace loving city turned into violence one. May God enlighten us...

Coffin scam also made during former PM Vajpayee also on corpse of Kargil martyrs.
So Deepak or Basheer more corpse more publicity for the BJP and easy to deflect from real issues.

Corpse or cofins. Party of difference. Shining India.

YES .... agree with this poem ... A direct slap to all politicians who are so stubborn to achieve their
personal goals to become MLA/MP/MLC and all port folio a POLITICAL BUSINESS HOUSE by hook or crook.... Current situation is not good to lead a normal life for middle and low class people, they earn their daily bread only by hard work and feed their family... These dirty minded criminals kill innoscent people for no reason.. Ok agree with gang wars, roudism and mafia people. for them it is their life.... This act is done by un employed and un educated people in the society and they get money for this act by politicians... This poem is outcome of these events which disturb common man...
WE LIVE hardly for say 60 to 80 yrs... why develop enemity in the name of Religion and Faith.. pl stop this and every one should say NO RELIGION on ROADS.... follow it in our sweet home... and focus on WORK / JOBS AND IF POSSIBLE HELP THE NEEDY... FEED OUR FAMILY AND IF EXTRA LEFT FEED THE SOCIETY IN GOOD INTENTION....

DEAR MR. JALEEL MUKRI, BEAUTIFULLY COMPOSED AND PUBLISHED YOUR POEM MUST HAVE BEEN TOUCHED MILLIONS OF PEOPLE. BUT IT WILL HURT THE FEELINGS OF THOSE WHO CHORE CATEGORY... BUT YOU HAVE GIVEN A TRUE EXAMPLE TO SUCH SHAMELESS CATEGORY TO IMPROVE THE LIVING QUALITY AND IF THOSE CATEGORY HAS LITTLE SHoutAME... I AM SURE AND PRAY TO GOD TO IMPROVE A BIT AT LEAST 25% ....AND THAT YOUR POEM CHANGED A STONE TO AMRITH. I TOO WRITE POEMS IN KONKANI ON RELATIONS AS PER TIME PERMITS BUT YOUR POEM IS UNIQUE IN UNIVERSE. PEOPLE BECOME VERY SELFISH, GREEDY...CRIMINAL... LIVING WITH NO RELATION POLICY, LIVING WITHOUT VALUES, RESPECT, MORALS, WITHOUT ANY ETHICS......SHAMELESSLY. HOPE.. SHAMELESS ARE TURNED TO RESPECTED AND BECOME A MODEL TO SOCIETY TO CHANGE EVERY THING NORMAL AND LIFE BACK TO RESPECTED. BETWEEN ONE SAD THING... WE CHOSE PEOPLE TO WORK FOR US AND THEY FORGET US.... FRIENDS....(?).....???. CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN TO DEAR JALEEL MUKRI FOR SUCH A MEANING FUL POEM. GOD BLESS.

    Dear Jallel uncle,
your poem says all and everything. this is the real situation in mangalore. we pay crores of taxes and we have to fear to travel on roads or nights. Passing kalladaka like passing syria or iraq.
teenagers are loosing life dirty cheap for no reason but for political parties gain. after their death political parties are desperate to take procession of their dead body, news channel will mint money by broadcasting whole day story but son or daughters are lost forever for their parents. today no one remember who lost life yesterday but parents will die with pain everyday.

I fully appreciate the view expressed by the author. But today because of this, the dead man of a communal murder gets more money than a living person. The new trend of donation and crowd funding is more dangerous. I feel now there will be a competition that, which community and political party will give more money to the dead persons family. Gradually this may spread to the culprits family who will be funded to carry out the murder - may be it is already there. Although I fully appreciate the pain suffered by the family, this should not lead to intentional murder as it happens for claiming the insurance. Make people to live and make a living
