Moodbidri, Jan 12: Three persons, who are defendants in a case, attempted to kill Balakrishna Shetty, president of Bar Association Karkala when he had visited a disputed spot along with his clients relating to land dispute. Shetty was also accompanied by court commissioner and surveyor at that time. When the defendants swung swords at the lawyer at Sampige in Tenkamijaru village, Shetty suffered minor injuries.

A long-standing land dispute is on between Narayana Shettigar and Shashidhar Shettigar from Sampige village. The issue is before the court now. The court here, which took up hearing of the case, had asked the court commissioner to conduct spot inspection. Accordingly, court-appointed commissioner Vishal, Balakrishna Shetty the advocate for Narayana Shettigar, and the surveyor went to the disputed site on Thursday evening. Defendants in the case, Shashidhar Shettigar, Ramesh Shettigar, and Thammanna Shettigar, attacked the lawyer with swords, it is said. When he tried to shield himself and escape from the attack, he suffered minor injuries, it is learnt. Shetty was thereafter treated at the community health centre.

The local police have registered a case against the accused.

Vice president of Karkala Bar Association, Sunil Kumar Shetty, and former general secretary, Raveendra Shetty, have condemned the murder attempt on Shetty.
