Udupi, Jul 26: Anti-Nagarjuna Action Committee has congratulated MP Manorama Madhwaraj for sticking to her pro-environmental concerns which she has been advocating since long, even during the trust vote in the parliament and announced that it is fully backing her on this issue.
A press statement released by the committee stated that BJP failed to support Manorama, who opposed Nagarjuna Thermal Power Plant for long, in her struggle against the project. During a protest, the government had even arrested and sent her to jail, it recollected.
A few BJP leaders promised to oppose the project during electioneering and changed guard after getting elected. They are now supporting the project and trying to suppress those fighting against it, the committee said.
Committee president Vijay Kumar Hegde in the statement said Manorama, who held the interests of the people of her constituency higher to her own individual interests, is a model politician. The fact that BJP is demanding her resignation makes it clear that the party is backing the project, he said.
If the party brings pressure on Manorama, the committee will reveal names of people who were recipients of monetary benefits from the company and also became ministers, he said. The committee supports her demand for a CBI inquiry into allegations made against her. The committee lends her moral support and will strive against the thermal power project under her leadership, press release stated.
