Mangaluru, Jan 28: Taking stern action against illegal stocks of sand, the police raided two places in as many days and seized 3,000 tons of sand worth Rs 27 lac.

Acting on reliable information, Ullal station police inspector, Gopikrishna K R and staff on Saturday January 27 raided a spot at Joseph Nagar in Permannur village, which falls within the jurisdiction of Ullal station, and confiscated one hundred loads of sand that was stored illegally. Police sub-inspector,Vinayak Toragal, and offiicials of mines and geology department were also involved with this operation.

The sand currently confiscated, weighing 1,000 tons, is worth seven lac rupees, as per an estimate. Police officials have asked members of the general public to provide information if any they have about illegal stocks of sand through either station house officers of police stations or higher ups. The officials assured that information so provided will be maintained a closely guarded secret.

On January 26, the police team led by police inspector, Gopikrishna K R raided illegal stock of sand near Ambody House in Kallapu Patla, and took into possession about 300 loads of sand weighing 2,000 tons. Officials of mines and geology department also were involved with this operation. The sand so confiscated has been valued at about Rs 20 lac.
