Mangaluru: Former mayor Ashraf to join JD(S), fight from city south?

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 28: Former city mayor and veteran Congressman from the district and vice president of minority cell of the party, K Ashraf, as per sources, is moving towards JD(S). Discussions with top leaders of JD(S) are in progress, and a final decision is likely to be announced soon.

As per information, discussions were held with JD(S) supremo, H D Deve Gowda, state JD(S) president, H D Kumaraswamy, and state general secretary of the party, B M Farooq, during the recent visit of these leaders to Dakshina Kannada district. It is said that Ashraf has put forth some pre-conditions for his joining, like fielding him from city (south) constituency. If these demands get favourable response, Ashraf's joining that party will be hastened, it is said.

Ashraf, who is with the Congress since the last three decades, happens to be a three-time corporator and mayor for a term. He had resigned from his post when working as city block president of the party after differences arose with party leadership. Ashraf, who aired his unhappiness about certain developments in the party thereafter, had been offered the post of the state vice president of party's minority unit last year. This move has failed to appease the leader.

Ashraf says that his family, which has remained loyal to Congress since long, has been disillusioned of late. He said that some stands taken by party leaders recently have pained him. "People who have been serving the party since long are being sidelined and newcomers are getting plum posts. An effort had also been made to snub me in the party through a conspiracy," he explains.

JD(S), which has failed to establish itself as a strong contender in Dalsjhina Kannada district, is determined to make an impact this time. It is laying added emphasis on city (south), Mangaluru, Moodbidri, Puttur and Sullia assembly constituencies.

It is felt that the decision of Ashraf, who is the current president of Dakshina Kannada District Union of Muslim Organizations and has a trusted band of supporters, to leave the party might create a splash in the party. The impact might be particularly visible in city(south) constituency, political analysts believe.

JD will never come to power with absolute majority so they only hope for a hung assembly and they will get a chance to be a Kingmaker, no doubt if this happens they will definitely play the role of kingmaker and for them in order to be a Kingmaker they need to defeat congress in few seas and they are trying for that., Ashraf is an uneducated good man surrounded by wrong advisers, he is very bold straight forward person with a clean heart, he doesn't know politics well and best not suited for that because he doesn't care to speak his mind.I think in case Ashraf contests from JD ticket in Mangalore he will not win but definitely it will help BJP and also it will be tough going for Congress so I think Congress leaders should take the matter seriously and convince him to stay in the party.

My sincere suggestion to Mr. Ashraf not to contest. This is divide votes of minorities and it will benefit anti national party. Our main aim should be defeating anti national elements.

No doubt Ashraf is a winning horse. Just recall the contribution and achievements of Ashraf when he was a mayor.

JR Lobo's has done nothing except CTRL + C and CTRL + V of Ashraf work.

Ivan D'Souza is the right candidate from Mangalore South.

Dear Ashraf, You better ask with yourself 'what qualities do you possess to be a good leader or atleast a leader', personally he is not capable of anything... He has become a mayor, it's because of Congress party & reservation system, not on his own capacity. You better be thankful for the mayor post bestowed upon you once.. than helping BJP.

Br Ashraf is joining JD(S) to support BJP indirectly, discussion is not going on with JD(S) leaders but with Yeddy and team.

As a Hindustani, we have all the right to support whoever we wants to but don't use the name of "DK Muslim Okkoota" to build your political platform

    All the best Ashraf Bhai,

Senior most people are side lined in Congress and new comers are given directly MLA, President, vice president, Mayor, Dpty Mayor and all other types of post.

People working from 3 decades are not given any posts, there are many like Ashraf who have worked hard but if Congress continues playing its dirty politics, i really doubt they would win majority in karnataka this time for sure.

When Mangalorean Congress Leaders especially can make a Ex Union Minister of India Mr. Poojary sit at home without giving him any importance in the party, they can sideline anybody for their benefit n power. I am a true Congress follower since 3 decades , but sad that such things are happening and no one wants to talk about it.

Good luck Ashraf, If contested in South it would be a very tough fight for congress.

Manglaore South means against John Richard Lobo. This is nothing but JD'S electoral understanding to divide the Muslim votes so that Krishna Palemar man in controversy of watching illicit video in the house of assembly to elect from this constituency.

It should be noted that former PM and party president Deve Gowda clearly said no understanding the Congress in the coming elections. It does prove that JD(S) wanted to Nitish Kumar of Karnataka in case of coalition government.
