Mangaluru: Technical snag - Air India flight cancelled, aircraft returns from runway

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 29: An Air India flight that was to leave for Mumbai from the international airport here had to be called back on Sunday January 28 on account of technical problems. The flight, which was Mumbai-bound, stands rescheduled for today.

The aircraft had picked up passengers and was taxying on the runway when problem was detected in the starter of the aircraft's engine, it is said. Thereafter, the aircraft returned to its base.

The flight, which had a capacity of 180, was carrying 116 passengers at the time of its cancellation. Air India is learnt to have arranged for the hotel stay for all the passengers of the flight. Officials of the company said that these passengers would fly to Mumbai by the flight scheduled to leave at 6 am on Monday.

Reports said that the spare part required to repair the problem was flown by a flight that arrived here from Mumbai on Sunday night. Sources said that the aircraft would be airworthy early morning today.

    I was in that plane,
    They deplaned us and we did not get a solution to travel on the same day as we had to catch another aircraft in Mumbai International.
    I our case it was not that important as our Visa had enough time for rescheduling.
    What about the Passenger who is in a emergency.
    Air India should provide him with a solution to travel. There needs to be a back up.
    Repairing a flight and expecting it to be on air next day is not a solution.
    The Air India staff did not have an answer.

    @Vincent desouza Belthangady,Some years back I had this problem to fly from mangalore to bombay .since in mangalore flight was cancelled because of flight didnt arrive from bombay.They were trying to send people with another flight to bombay only on urgent requests.I approached them and told that my connecting flight at midnight will be missing suppose I have to fly next day.And they sent me without problem with next flight.That I will never forget.At present we fly with Ethihad-Jet to Germany -mangalore.best way.Previously we had no other option except mangalore-bombay -Germany would take two days for travelling one way.

    This type of problem could happen to any airline. Nothing new. Air India will do very well and can minimize losses if good work culture is established. Some people do not work in a dedicated manner since govt employment. Generally I have found Airindia express service and timing very good Dubai-Mangalore sector.

    Air India was surviving may be because of revenues generated from Haj pilgrims. Now we will come across more cases such as this as subsidy has been withdrawn.

    In other words you mean to say by giving subsidy to haj pilgrims air-india turn to bankruptecy. Than I agree with you. Will wait for five more years to watch now where air india reach and retain it's title maharaja shining once again.

    @Devkumar,

    Surely you don't understand economics. What I told was that Air India was generating huge revenues because of Hajj Pilgrims by charging 38,000 rupees for 18,000 ticket and giving some jujubi discount in the name of subsidy. Lakhs of Hajj Pilgrims are compelled to travel only by Air India even after its poor service. So you make some calculation.

    Regarding your comment about bankruptcy; Modi government has realized that there is no future for Air India after withdrawal of namesake subsidy and so they decided to go for complete dis- investment of Air India that too allowing FDI ( Foreign Direct Investment) ( Selling state assets to foreigners). For foreigners (Air India); by foreigners ( Bullet train); where is make in India?

    If the solution was that much simple (Selling state assets to overseas companies) then even congress could have done that. Great management skill by Modi ruled BJP.

    If you are not a f ku, please answer my following question please;

    In India all petroleum marketing companies have just 2 components which effect its earnings; namely, marketing margin and transport margin. So what contribution of Modi government you see in the profits of these petroleum companies?

    Modi government's contribution is the pakoda stall outside Zee news office.

    Just For the sake of argument even if we agree that Mr. Modi government's policies have resulted in the turnaround of these companies ; the government is still looting the poor common man who pays even 80 rupees per litre. (In congress rule petrol was about 70 rupees even though crude oil was at 130 dollar per gallon compared to 35-40 dollar per gallon in the time of Modi)

    The Modi government is getting about 2,00,000 Crores from taxes on petrol and diesel. What the common man got?
