Mangaluru, Jan 30: In a strange incident which happened near Hampankatta in the city on Monday January 29, an ambulance had to be summoned to wake up a person who was deep asleep inside a parked car.

A stranger had parked his Maruti Omni van and gone asleep inside. The people who observed that the vehicle with a man who did not move for long was stationed for a considerable time, called for an ambulance as they guessed that this could be result of some tragic incident.

The car bearing Hassan registration number was found to be stationed opposite the University College in Hampankatta at about 3 pm on Monday. The head of a person seated in the driver's seat was found to be resting on the steering wheel, with froth dripping out of his open mouth. The front wind shield was wide open and two cellphones, one on the seat and another in the dash board, were found.

When efforts made by the people who gathered around out of curiosity to wake the man up failed to yield any result, they feared for the worst. The finding of a glucose bottle inside the vehicle gave rise to further worry. The general opinion which emerged was that the person must be very sick and that he would have come there to get admitted into a hospital. Therefore they called for 108 ambulance service. The ambulance failed to make an apperance even after an hour of wait.

After the matter was brought to the notice of the district health officer, he asked the people to contact Wenlock Hospital. The driver of a private ambulance which came there at that time succeeded in waking the man from his deep slumber.

The man explained to the surprised people that he had brought his family members to the hospital and that unknowingly he slipped into deep sleep at the spot where he had parked the van. Within seconds, the man zoomed away in his vehicle, leaving the onlookers amazed.
