Udupi, Jan 30: A leopard which came to the village looking for food fell in an open well at Suttuballe in Perdoor here on Monday January 29. Unfortunately, it could not be saved.

The leopard had fallen in the well belonging to Sathish Kulal two days ago. As there are no houses nearby, nobody knew about it. Kulal's family members who went to draw water on Monday found the carcass of the leopard floating in the well.

Villagers then informed the forest department.

The forest department department officials with the help of villagers lifted the dead leopard from the well. Veterinary doctors who conducted post-mortem said that the leopard had come for food and fell in into well. It stayed afloat for sometime in the water and drowned when its efforts to save itself went in vain.

The forest department and the villagers buried the leopard in the nearby bushes.
