Kasargod: Two women, child of same family crushed to death by train engine at Manjeshwar

Kasargod, Jan 31: In a tragic incident, two women and a child were crushed to death by the engine of a train near Manjeshwar railway station here on Wednesday January 31.

The deceased have been identified as Amina (43), Ayesha (45) and Ayesha's three-year-old son Taamil.

Ayesha and Amina were sisters, and daughters of K T Abubakker, a resident of Satyadka. 

It is learnt that they were trying to cross the railway track when the bogie-less engine of a train moving from Mangaluru to Kasargod rammed into them.

Sources said that the women had waited for another train moving from Chennai to Kasargod to pass before crossing. However, while they were waiting, they failed to notice the engine of the other train moving on another track next to it. 

They were returning home from a visit to an apparel store when the tragedy took place.

The bodies have been shifted to Mangalpady CHC for post-mortem.

Manjeshwar police have registered a case.

    Really a very sad incident. I came to know about this yesterday evening when I was traveling from Mangaluru to Kasaragodu. I saw a crowd and lot of vehicles near Hosabettu, then a fellow passenger told about this tragedy. May their souls RIP and God give strength to the bereaved families on this hour of grief.

    Very sad three lives from same family lost.we (I)dont know how the situation there ,whether crossing is possible only on tracks without safeguard plateform .so Idont judge it,cant say negligence or negligence of railway to build a crossover.But tragic enough and in future too might happen same.So please railway kindly look into it before another life loose.They wouldnt cross the tracks if there was a possibility to cross without risk.May their souls find peace in Heaven.and heartfelt sympathy to their family to bear this loss.

    Very tragic incident. Rest in peace. May Almighty give strength to their family to bear this loss.
    Authorities should at least open their eyes now & take necessary steps to built a foot bridge across the track as this is the place connecting people crossing from national Highway to its parallel local road & the railway station. More than 1000's cross this track each day & before its too late again,i hope to see the foot bridge.

    Here in Surathkal Railway Station there is only one Platform. On 20th January,2018 I went to Bangalore by Karwar Yashwantpura day express.
    It came on track & halted. I had to get down from platform, had to cross the tracks to climb up the train. IAM 63 years old. I saw from Hassan railway station to B,lore new stations are having multiple platforms. Why can not Konkan Railway build one more platform with overhead bridge.

    Unbelievable ! I have never heard of a situation where trains stops away from the platform and people have to get down from the platform to board it. Indian railway is still dark ages and Konkan railway seems to be even more backward than that. I recently saw a few railway crossings. They are just crossings with no safety. People have to cross at their own risk. Surprised how people survive there everyday.

    It is true that Surathkal Railway station on Konkan railway route presently has only one platform. Many times the trains halt at second track where there is no platform. It is very difficult and dangerous for elderly and also Women with children to board or alight from trains when there is no platform. Most of railway stations in Maharashtra on Konkan railway route have two platforms even though passenger traffic is less than Suratkal. I request Konkan railway Corporation Limited to provide second platform and foot over bridge at Surathkal. Also every railway station there must be foot over bridge for passengers who want to cross other side .
