Kasargod: Attempt to cheat parish priest - Nigerian citizen taken into custody

Daijiworld Media Network - Kasargod (SP)

Kasargod, Feb 1: A Nigerian national identified as Royuininus Mathew, was taken into custody by the Hosdurg police. He has been accused of visiting Don Bosco Church at Chullikere near Rajapuram, and swindling money from the parish priest by providing him false information.

Mathew had claimed with the priest that he happens to be the representative of a priest from a famous church in England. The man, who visited the church in a Royal Enfield Bullet motor bike, had approached the parish priest with fake name, Ruglus. He said he had come here to tour India and that during his visit to Manipal, he had lost his money, passport, and other documents. He thereafter sought to borrow Rs 3,000 from the priest, it is gathered.

After he gave away the money, the priest developed suspicion about the identity of the person. He conveyed information to the police. The police, who took the man into custody and probed him, found two passports in his possession, it is said.

A couple of weeks' back, a man was visiting houses in Mangalore with a document printed in colour and neatly laminated. The author was a representative of a church in Goa and the document explained about some handicap the man was suffering from and requested to help him. A few will catch the error in the title of the head - it spelled St. Xavier as St. Axvier.

The man rang the bell, tossed the document in the hand of the person who answered and proceeded in a hurry to the next house. We had time to google with the title of the church and to our shock there was no church by the name at that address, even if spelled correctly. When he returned to collect his document and contribution, we declined to which he made some funny outbursts (he appeared speech disabled) and left in angrily.

People, beware - these days people don't even spare God when begging is concerned.
