Mangaluru, Feb 3: Iternational Skill Exchange Programme was organised in St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute on February 3. The focus of the programme was on empowering girls through skill training and making them competent.

Alberto Passani and Silvana Rizzi from Italy were the dignitairies. The programme began with a prayer song. A beautiful and traditional welcome dance set the tone for the programme. Robin Vas, junior training officer welcomed everyone on behalf of the institution.

The dignitaries were introduced to the students by Fr Dr Leo D’Souza, former director of the institution. He said, “Alberto Passani is a well known artist in Italy because of his beautiful paintings. Sivana Rizzi is the grand niece of Br Antonio Moscheni who had painted the world famous paintings in St Aloysius Chapel. Both of them are actively involved in social service works, especially for the poor. On their visit to India every year, they make it a point to visit Aloysian Boys Home, an orphanage run by St Aloysius Institution Management and spend time with them.”

Director of the institution Fr Eric Mathias felicitated the guests with a shawl and peta.

Talking to the students, Silvana Rizzi said, “It is indeed a great experience to be associated with St Aloysius ITI in empowering rural youth, especially girls. Apart from sewing technology which is mainly taken up by girls, the institution has recently started a plumber course for ladies. The quality of training in this institution is superior and we are confident the girls who take up this course would be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with boys. The world has tremendous opportunity for the girls in the technical field. Girls must make use of the opportunity being presented by this institution and become self reliant.”

Vincent Mendonsa, principal, Romius D’Souza, training Officer and Roshan D’Souza, vice-principal were also present. Students presented a cultural show. Shreyas, first year student, rendered the vote of thanks. Adolf Rodrigues, student of MMV trade conducted the programme.

The dignitaries also visited the newly inaugurated sani-tech lab which was constructed and donated by M/S Jaquar & Co Ltd and expressed their appreciation. Sani-tech lab is equipped with modern sanitary fitments. Under the training tie-up with M/s Jaquar & Co Ltd, the institution is offering sanitary technology course for ladies, which is the first of its kind in whole of Karnataka.

"Internationalism" is no more a slogan but part of our life all over the world. We all depend upon each other for every segment of our life because the spirt of globalization is spreading fast and faster from every corner of the world.

Each year, when we visit Mangalore we distinctly notice vivid changes everywhere, and there is an evidence of a foreign involvement in one form or another. Even if you enter a fruit shop on the road side we notice variety of fruits come all the way from China, Thailand and even Malaysia. Our Restaurants, our Pharmacies, our Groceries and even many of the Fast Food joints are filled with foreign food items offering variety of foreign diet.

India is a fast developing nation. Indians grasp the foreign influences much quicker than many other nations because vast population of India speak fluent English. Our Education in India allows us to learn foreign influences much faster than many other nations.

Let us therefore encourage more and more foreign visitors come to our Schools and Colleges and witness our progress. Let our foreign friends carry with them our friendship and our goodwill. Let us respect the foreigners and make them welcome in our societies and cultures. Let happiness prevail while we embrace foreign dignitaries in our Institutions, and let there be an atmosphere of mutual satisfaction in all that we do and speak. This is all going to add to our International flavor that will make us get closer to all other nations and all other people that we acquaint with.
