Bangalore Blasts: Simi Man Nabbed in Belgaum, Two Suspects Held in Bengal
Bangalore, Aug 3: A crack team of Delhi and West Bengal police arrested two men, including a Bangladeshi from Siliguri, West Bengal, who are believed to have played a major role in carrying out the recent serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad, reports reaching here said on Saturday.
Md Yasin, hailing from Khulna in Bangladesh, and Md Meheruddin alias Munna, were remanded in police custody by a district court in Siliguri. The duo would be flown out to New Delhi for interrogation once the police receive the court transit permit.
Acting on a tip provided to police by Md Hakim, who was nabbed earlier this week from Delhi in connection with the Bangalore blasts, sleuths from the Delhi police launched a search operation in Bhaktinagar area of Siliguri on Friday.
According to Bengal police, the duo was arrested from Santipara.
Five crude bombs, one country-made fire-arm and some rounds of ammunition were also recovered from them.
In Belgaum on Saturday, police arrested an activist of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and seized material and explosives from him.
SP Sonia Narang told mediapersons that Tanvir alias Tannu Abdul Sattar Mulla (31) was arrested near the District Stadium in the city.
Narang said that Tanvir and three others — Nasir Patel, Imtiyaz Dalayat and Liyakhat Ali who are all now in judicial custody — had hatched a plot to trigger a blast in a polling booth at Tilakwadi, a Belgaum suburb on May 22.
The arrested was a resident of Khusronagar in the city and three CDs have been recovered from his house.
Narang said while one CD contained details of bomb preparation, the second had provocative speeches and scenes from Gujarat violence and Babri masjid demolition of Uttar Pradesh. The third CD contained training sessions for terrorists in Afghanistan and scenes of beheading of western hostages by terrorists.
The gang had conducted a dry run by exploding a bomb inside a house in Shindholi on the outskirts of the city. The mastermind behind all the gang’s activities was one Dr Manroj who was arrested in Indore and has been lodged in Hindalaga Jail here.
She said Tanvir had gone to Dubai in 2003 and was working as a waiter in a catering agency for one-and-a-half years. On return, he came in contact with SIMI and was active in the organisation. Tanvir’s father is a photographer and mother an anganawadi teacher, she added.
