Mangalore: Congress Corporators Condemn Caning of CPI (M), DYFI Activists

Mangalore, Aug 4: Congress corporators in the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) have condemned the caning of the protesting CPI (M) and DYFI activists on Monday August 4 in front of the Corporation office.

The corporators have opined that the incident occurred because of the autocratic functioning style of city mayor Ganesh Hosabettu. The mayor was not prepared to come out of his chamber to receive the memorandum from the protestors. This resulted in the protestors turning restive and subsequent caning, they contended.

Such an incident has occurred for the first time in front of the MCC office. Congress party ruled the MCC for more than two decades. But the Congress corporators always showed the courtesy of accepting the memorandums from the protestors. It is sad that the BJP Corporators failed to show this courtesy and respect to the other political parties, said MCC opposition party leader Harinath, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde and corporator Navin D’Souza in a joint press release.
