Kundapur, Feb 9: The charred body of an unidentified person was found in the fields at Neramballi, Hangaluru here.

The deceased man appears to be aged below forty years. As the body was completely burnt, it was difficult to identify the person. It is suspected that the person was dead already and the body was charred when somebody set fire to the dry grass in the field on Wednesday, February 7 to clean it. The dead body has been torn apart by animals and scattered in the field.

A labourer walking nearby saw the corpse and informed the locals in the surrounding. The news reached police later.

Though it does not appear to be a case of murder on the onset, it cannot be completely ruled out, said police sources. Police are questioning people in order to identify the deceased. The dead body has been sent to KMC Manipal for postmortem.

Kundapur station PSI Harish and staff visited the spot. Investigations are on.
