Mangalore: Panel to Discuss Suggestions, Ideas for City Development

Mangalore, Aug 5:  A meeting convened by DK deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao for accepting proposals for the city development, decided to form a committee comprising of various officials and peoples' representatives, for mooting suggestions in various fields. DK district-in-charge secretary Bharatlal Meena was present.

People who participated in the meeting, came up with various suggestions. Rao informed that the meeting aims at discussing projects that tap the potential and pave way for an orderly growth of the city in the long run. Although several meetings were held on the issue earlier and various suggestions were received, the committee set to be formed, will go into the demands and latest development requirements of the city. Some earlier suggestions were implemented. Some others may have to be modified because of changed circumstances, he said.

Karnataka Bank chairman Ananthakrishna drew the attention of the DC towards earlier reports submitted to the state government by Mangalore Agenda Task Force and also the Coastal Agenda Task Force constituted in the past for the purpose and wanted to know their fate. Some of the suggestions made therein need to be urgently implemented, he said. He wanted the extension of the runway of Mangalore airport and opined that infrastructural projects would have lot of potential here, as the city is connected by water routes, air, road and rail.

Mangalore north MLA N Yogish Bhat opined, that the sectors which have a tremendous potential here are agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, education, health, IT industries, road development and housing. He also came up with suggestions for constructing ring roads around the city, mono-rail between Udupi and Mangalore, development of areas around Pilikula, declaring Kadri temple region as green area and private participation in development projects.

    Nice initiative. Good roads planned with adequate drain systems and a tidy footpath with interlock tiles rather than stones would be first requirement,cleanliness of Busstands,Railway stations,regular cleaning of the garbage bins,improvement on existing airport(runways and terminals for landing&Taxing of big aircrafts as Mr.Saldanha has highlighted)CCTVs,Marked parking places,Professionally errected signal lights,more of all education/awareness to be created among the public to use public sanitation,stick no bills,do not litter,donot SPIT/Draw/paint on the walls,donot cause damage to public property, etc...KEEP MANGALORE CITY CLEAN.

    First and the foremost need of the hour is repairs of the roads in the city leading to the airport/railway stations/port etc. Travelling on these roads you get back pain and with the back pain what big developmental things you can do?

    Very Good idea to put suggestion to increase the runway length so that bigger aircrafts and land and it will be a boon for Mangalore city as it has lots of potential in Tourism and exports of various local produce.
