Mangaluru, Feb 9: The feast of patroness, Our Lady of Lourdes, was celebrated at Lourdes Central School with honour and pride on Friday, February 9.
The programme began with the morning assembly invoking God’s blessing by singing the prayer song. Manager Fr Wilson Vitus D’Souza, principal Fr Robert D’Souza, the chief guest Fr Alwyn D’Cunha, parish priest, Infant Mary Church, Katipalla, vice-principal Belita Macarenhas, Stany Vas, vice president and Cony Saldanha, secretary, Bejai Parish Parishad were present.
Shaila Periera welcomed the gathering. The significance of the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes was given by Alka Sequeira of class VIII A. Simultaneously, a tableau was presented on the stage.
Principal Fr Robert D’Souza addressed the gathering by wishing one and all present a happy feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. He said that Mother Mary accompanied all at LCS throughout the year. To commemorate the occasion, the staff and students contributed their mite to the underprivileged of the society.
Students who rendered services for the betterment of the school were felicitated. Sports personalities who had actively taken part in national and state level and brought laurels to our school were honoured. Staffs of LCS who had not availed any casual leave were also honoured.
Chief guest Fr Alwyn D’Cunha in his address appreciated the manager, principal, staff and students of LCS and prayed that Our Lady of Lourdes shower her blessings on everyone. He appreciated the all round development of the school and said that the school had made a wonderful name not only in Dakshina Kannada, but also in other parts of the state.
School Manager Fr Wilson Vitus D’Sousa in his address wished a very happy feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. He congratulated the students and staff who were felicitated. He wished that Our Patroness shower her blessings, protect and be with all in respect endeavors.
Fareeza Nuha of class VIII C proposed the vote of thanks. As a token of gratitude Fr Robert and Fr Wilson honoured the chief guest with a momento and a shawl.
After the conclusion of the stage programme the cultural programme commenced with a skit portraying Mother Mary’s Virtues and sacrifices by the primary students. This was followed by a melodious song sung in honour of Our Lady of Lourdes by the choir group. The programme concluded with a dance dedicated to Mother Mary unveiling the power of Rosary by students of class III. Rion and Velica of class VIII B compered the programme.
Eucharistic celebration
After the cultural programme a Mass for the Catholic students was celebrated by Fr Alwyn D’Cunha. The liturgy and choir was conducted by the students under the guidance of Fr Alphonse JoJo and Ivan Mascarenhas respectively. Both the staff and the students brought offerings to the church. Fr Robert D’Souza conveyed his gratitude to everybody before the Mass ended.
